DAY 01: CUSCO

Our Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour begins with a welcome to the magical city of Cusco, our staff will be waiting for you at the airport or bus terminal to give you a warm welcome and transfer you to your comfortable hotel.

You will be able to relax, get to know the surroundings and acclimatize during your first day in the city of Cusco, declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

At sunset, approximately 5:00 p.m., we will meet with the entire group of hikers in our offices for a briefing, where you will meet our expert guide and clarify all your doubts before starting the tour the next day.

Your experience of the Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain tour begins when our guide and private transportation pick you up from your hotel in Cusco´s city, around 5:30 a.m. After a comfortable 3.5-hour journey in our private van, we will reach the Málaga Pass (4,350 m/14,271 ft), the highest point of this adventure. We will stop there to prepare and receive instructions from the guide before starting the first activity of the day.

Around 10 a.m. we will start the approximately 3-hour bike descent, passing through small villages, farmland, and river crossings until we reach Huamanmarca. Here, we will have a delicious lunch and a short rest.

Then, we will board our private van that will take us to Santa Maria in 45 minutes approximately, where we will do the second activity of the day, a 2-hour rafting experience on the Vilcanota River, accompanied by a professional kayak guide. Finally, we will head to our hotel in Santa Maria for a delicious dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Note: If you prefer not to descend the bike, you can travel comfortably in the van that follows the group.

DAY 03: SANTA MARÍA – SANTA TERESA (COCALMAYO´S HOT SPRINGS)

Highlight of the day: Walk a stage of the Inca Trek, visit coffee plantations, the local Hacienda, and relax at the famous Cocalmayo´s hot springs.

We will start the second day of the Inca Jungle, enjoying a delicious breakfast before beginning the exciting exploration. During the morning stretch, we will notice a gradual ascent, with strategic pauses to contemplate and learn about the rich flora and fauna of the region, which will connect you with nature and history.

During one of these stops, you will have the opportunity to rest in a family home known as “Hacienda Local“, where you can taste local fruits, learn about their customs and recharge your camelback with water. Then, continue walking along an ancient stretch of the Inca Trail, a historic road that linked Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu. While you enjoy the panoramic views of the Huancarccasa Canyon.

Then we will start with the descent to the village of Quellomayo, where a hearty lunch and some time to rest in the relaxing hammocks await you. Finally, we will walk 2 hours more until we reach the Cocalmayo Hot Springs, where you can relax and enjoy its medicinal waters.

After the relaxing experience, we will head to Santa Teresa, where we will have a delicious dinner and spend the night in a previously reserved hotel.

After an energetic breakfast, we will begin the third day of Inca Jungle Machu Picchu trek, with an exciting zip-line slide and enjoying the impressive jungle scenery. Then, we will return to our transportation, which will take us to Santa Teresa, during this time, we can enjoy the panoramic views and take a short break before reaching the checkpoint at the “Hydroelectric“, where a delicious lunch awaits us.

Then, we will start a light hike of approximately 4 hours along the train tracks, a stretch in which you will enjoy incredible landscapes, coca fields and local crops; until we reach Machu Picchu Pueblo also known as “Aguas Calientes”, where you will settle in a three-star hotel (previously booked).

In the evening, we will meet at a tourist restaurant for a delicious dinner and to plan with the assigned guide, our exciting visit to Machu Picchu.

Our last day of the Inca Jungle Machu Picchu tour began very early in the morning, around 5:00 a.m. to make the most visit to Machu Picchu. After breakfast, you will take one of the first buses to get to the Inca city of Machu Picchu’s entrance and start the guided tour of the site’s most important and beautiful places. Take the best panoramic pictures from the Guardian’s House, recharge yourself with the mystic energy at the Sacred Rock and discover the history while touring this sacred Inca city.

At the end of our visit, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, to enjoy a delicious lunch before boarding the train that will take us to Ollantaytambo, where our private transportation will be waiting to take you to the door of your hotel in the city of Cusco.

Our Rainbow Mountain begins when we pick you up very early (4 am – 5 am) from your hotel located in the city of Cusco, to start our Rainbow Mountain Tour Full-Day, once we are all on board, we will begin the journey of approximately 2 hours (you can take the opportunity to rest) until we reach Cusipata, our first stop. Here we will taste a delicious breakfast and thus, get the energy needed to overcome this adventure.

After breakfast, we will return to our transport to continue our trip for another hour and a half, crossing beautiful landscapes illuminated by the Andean sunrise and observing the impressive wildlife of the mountains, while we travel through a challenging terrain (trail) until we reach Phuluwasipata, where we will begin our long-awaited hike to the Rainbow Mountain.

Once we get off the transport, our guide will give you the last recommendations and indications to have the best experience during the tour, remember that at this point you can choose to rent horses (not included, 80 to 100 soles approx.), which will help you to overcome the challenge of the altitude and also to make the journey in less time.

During the ascent of 1 hour and a half on average, you will be able to observe the most incredible landscapes, where the main protagonists are the mountains, whose tones are of a peculiar red, pink and green color; product of the mineral composition of the place, the Ausangate Mountain (6,372 m/20,905 ft) that will accompany us throughout the tour and you can also observe Andean animals such as alpacas and llamas. Once we arrive at Vinicunca (5,036 m/16,522 ft), you will be dazzled by the beauty of its colors at its maximum splendor and take the best panoramic photos (360°) of the place and the Ausangate, the highest and most famous snow-capped mountain in Cusco.

After enjoying the wonderful and unique landscape of this place, we will proceed to descend the same way up, during the journey we will have more time and calm to observe the peculiar Andean life and learn more about their customs, traditions and colorful costumes of the communities, until our transport, which will be waiting for us to start the return trip, with a stop at a restaurant to enjoy a well-deserved and nutritious lunch, the reward for having conquered the famous Rainbow Mountain.

At the end of our lunch and a brief rest, we will proceed to board the transport and begin the return trip to Cusco, saying goodbye to the mountains and Andean communities. Our incredible Rainbow Mountain Tour will conclude at San Bernardo Street, located 1 block from Cusco’s main square.

This is your last day of the Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain tour, you will have the morning free in the Cusco’s city to relax at the hotel or take a last chance to explore the city.

Optionally you can book a guided tour of Cusco, where you will visit its main attractions such as the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the San Pedro market and/or the Sacsayhuaman fortress. Our staff will be available to recommend the best places to visit, buy souvenirs or just walk around.

In the afternoon we will transfer you to the Cusco airport according to your departure flight itinerary to Lima or another destination.

There is no minimum or maximum age limit, however, this tour is recommended for children under 12 years old or older, with parental permission and adults no older than 55 years old. During the trek there are adventure activities (biking, rafting and zip line) and you will also climb over 5,000 m/16,404 ft. during the visit to Rainbow Mountain.

Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult during the entire tour and adults can be over 55 years old, as long as the participants are in good physical condition and do not suffer from heart or respiratory problems, always under their own responsibility.

Is there any discount for minors?

Children between 6 to 9 years old have a special discount of 50.00 USD.

Children between 10 to 16 years old have a special discount of 25.00 USD.

What activity do we have planned for the last day of the Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour?

The last day of our packages is generally a free day, in which you can tour the city or rest, according to your flight schedule. Our driver will pick you up to transfer you from the hotel to the airport, where we will say goodbye to this great adventure.

Can I choose not to do any activities such as cycling or canoeing during the Inca Jungle?

For logistical and enjoyment reasons, it is recommended that you do the scheduled activities as they are the essence of the tour. However, if you do not wish to do them, please note that there is no discount for not doing the activity and you are not allowed to be separated from the group.

What level of physical condition is required for the ascent to the 7 Colors Mountain?

Although it is true that the ascent is relatively short, lasting between 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, it is recommended to have moderately good physical condition, since it takes place at altitudes of 4,500 m. to more than 5,000 m., which can be a challenge.

Note: in case you do not wish to do the trek, there is the option of renting horses, which are rented directly to the villagers.

If I have any adverse physical condition, can I do the Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to do this tour, as it involves activities such as cycling, rafting, ziplining and trekking, which takes place in rough and rugged terrain.

If you have personal medication, you should carry it with you throughout the tour and be in constant communication with your guide regarding your condition and/or problems that may or may not arise due to it.

Is it important to acclimatize for the Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour?

Our package is designed for gradual acclimatization, since on day 01, you will be able to acclimatize in the city of Cusco, which will help prevent altitude sickness or soroche. Then we will continue with the activities of the Inca Jungle, which takes place at altitudes between 2,000 to 2,500 meters above sea level, so it does not involve a high challenge, during this trek, you can establish a great resistance and you will be ready to face the real challenge that is the visit to the Rainbow Mountain, located over 5,000 meters above sea level.

Where can I store my luggage during Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour?

During the tour, you can leave your heavy luggage at your accommodation in Cusco. Most hotels have a luggage storage service free of charge. We also remind you that during your train ride (Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo) you will only be allowed to carry one personal backpack.

Note: in case your hotel does not provide you with the option to store your luggage, Waman Adventures offers you the option to store it in our facilities with total guarantee and security.

What happens if the tour Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain is canceled due to weather conditions or strikes?

Being external factors beyond the immediate control of the travel agency, we must remind you that these tours are not refundable or postponable. All visits and tours are organized months in advance of your trip in order to secure your entrance tickets and tickets throughout your trip.

Can I choose my seat for my train trip from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo?

The train companies Peru Rail or Inca Rail, do not allow the choice of seats in the train cars to travel agencies, these are assigned randomly according to availability for your chosen travel date. The agency will always try to purchase tickets for your travel date, with the number of specific seats taking a back seat.

Do the travel packages include international air tickets on my tour Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain?

However, we have trained staff that will gladly help you to quote and organize your flights in a better way.

Do I need a Visa to enter Peru?

With some exceptions, most countries do not require a Visa to enter Peru as tourists.

Tourists are allowed a stay of 30 to 90 days; the actual length of stay is determined by the National Superintendence of Migration.

What happens if I lose my migration card?

Be careful not to lose your tourist card, or you will have to wait in line at the Super Intendance Nacional de Migrations (migration office), also known as migrations to get a replacement card. It is a good idea to carry your passport and TAM in your pocket at all times, especially when traveling in remote areas, for example: it is required by law on the Inca Trail.

For safety’s sake get a photocopy of both documents and keep them in a separate place from the originals.

Will I be able to have an internet connection during my Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour?

You will have an internet connection in the hotels included in your travel package. All the hotels we work with have Wi-Fi service. Also, if you like you can choose to purchase a local phone chip, and along with it opt for a data package ranging from 15 soles to more, always depending on the type of service you want.

On the other hand, during your Inca Jungle or Rainbow Mountain treks, you will not have coverage, remember that this is a nature adventure and you should enjoy it to the fullest.

Can I record with my drone on my Inca Jungle Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour?

You can record during your tour as long as you are not in an archaeological site such as Machu Picchu and if you want to record in the Rainbow Mountain, you must request it and coordinate it with the guide, who will help you to process the necessary permits.
