FAQS

What is the weather like during my tour?

Cusco and the entire Andean region have two seasons: rainy and dry season. These seasons are present in areas such as Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain. During the rainy season, which occurs from January to March, significant amounts of rainfall are likely to occur. It is during this period, from May to October, when the weather is clear and there is rarely any rain; therefore, this is the best time to visit. There is some uncertainty between April and November because they are transitional months.

When is the best time to travel to Peru?

In terms of climate, Peru is an incredibly diverse country, due to its varied geography. This means that weather conditions vary greatly from region to region and provide unique vacation opportunities.

  • If you wish to visit the Peruvian coast, which includes cities such as Lima, Paracas, and Ica, the best time to do so is during the summer months, which run from December to March. In these months, you will be able to enjoy warm temperatures and little rain, making this the ideal time for exploring this region.
  • A dry season occurs from May to October in the Peruvian highlands, including Cusco, Machu Picchu, Arequipa, and Puno. During this period, the weather is dry and sunny, with cool temperatures during the day and cool nights. Additionally, rain is rarely encountered, making it the ideal time to enjoy activities in this mountainous region.
  • It is recommended to visit Peruvian jungles, including Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado, during the dry season. This coincides with the Andes’ weather, from May to October, because less rain falls, which is ideal for our activities.
How much does it cost to travel to Peru?

The cost of travel to Peru can vary depending on several factors, including the length of your trip, your travel style, your accommodation preferences, the food you choose, internal transportation, and the activities you wish to engage in. Furthermore, flight prices vary depending on the season and airline, while accommodations range from budget to luxury according to the location. Peruvian cuisine, offered in both street food stalls and gourmet restaurants, is accessible to all budgets. Public transportation, such as buses and trains, is usually reasonably priced, although taxis and private services can be more expensive.

On the other hand, our staff will always be attentive to provide you with guidance on this matter. Preferably, take money with you in soles during the days of the tour since, at many of the stops, most of the tourist businesses accept payment in soles and only a few in dollars.

Where is the starting and ending point of my travel package?

This travel package starts by picking you up from the airport. Depending on your package and itinerary, pick-up will be from the Jorge Chávez airport in Lima or the Alejandro Velazco Astete airport in Cusco. When you arrive at these airports, a Waman Adventures representative will greet you holding a sign with your name.

However, the package ends at the Juliaca airport, where you will be transferred on time.

Furthermore, we recommend that, when speaking with our sales agents, you obtain detailed information about your airline tickets in order to make the appropriate arrangements.

How far in advance should I book this package?

We’re excited that you’re considering our services and package deals! To ensure you have the best experience, we recommend making your reservation at least one month in advance. This will allow us to guarantee entrance tickets to the various attractions we plan to visit together.

Please contact our sales agents for more details and reservations. They are here to answer all your questions and doubts.

NOTE: Before making your reservation, it is necessary to contact our sales agents, as this package is subject to Machu Picchu entrance availability.

Is it better to bring dollars or soles?

It is advisable to travel to Peru carrying U.S. dollars. It is recommended to look for an exchange house with a reasonable exchange rate. Airport exchange rates are often unfavorable.

We recommend that you exchange your currency for dollars (Mexican pesos, Colombian pesos, Argentinean pesos, etc.). Once in Cusco City, the exchange rate for non-dollar currencies is usually lower.

The most convenient place to sell your dollars is on Av. El Sol. This avenue is near the Main Square and has many exchange houses. However, our staff is always available to guide you on this matter.

You should take Peruvian soles with you since most tourist businesses accept soles and only a few accept dollars during the tour.

How many travellers will I share this experience with?

This package offers small group services, meaning fewer than 12 people.

Is accommodation included in this package? Can I choose the hotel I like?

For the Cusco to Machu Picchu Tour, accommodation is included for the 3 days of the tour, based on double occupancy. We can offer double rooms, single or double beds, or a triple room with 3 single beds—whatever you prefer. It is necessary to contact our sales agents to provide these details regarding the type of accommodation.

On the other hand, if you are traveling solo, you must pay an individual supplement for your accommodation in the hotel.

We work with the Ayni Cusco Hotel or similar in Cusco. In Machu Picchu Pueblo, also called Aguas Calientes, we use the Golden Sunrise Hotel or similar. In Puno, we use the Qalasaya Hotel, and in Lima, the Miramar Hotel.

What is the minimum age to travel?

The minimum recommended age for these experiences is 6 years old. It is not appropriate for children from 0 to 7 years old. All children must be accompanied by responsible adults (over 18 years old) at all times. See the “Extras” section in the packages or contact our sales agents directly to find out the charge for children up to 11 years of age at the time of travel. Travelers 12 years and older are charged at the regular rate. The maximum recommended age for this experience is up to 60 years old.

Is it possible to travel with minors and are there any discounts for minors?

Yes, of course. But they must always be accompanied by an adult, and the agency is not liable for any mishaps. The recommended minimum age is 6 years old and the maximum age is 60 years old (this may be higher if participants are in proper physical condition and do not have heart or respiratory problems, under their own responsibility).

Extras:

  • Children between 6 and 9 years old have a special discount of 85.00 USD.
  • Children between 10 and 16 years old have a special discount of 25.00 USD.
Is it possible to charge my electronic devices during my package?

Of course, you can charge your electronic devices at the hotels included in your tour package. Peru’s voltage is 220 volts or 60Hz AC. Be cautious: if you connect electronic devices designed for lower-voltage currents, you may damage them. To protect your devices, we recommend bringing a voltage adapter.

In Peru, the most common plugs are Type A (two parallel rectangular slits), Type B (two parallel slits plus a third circular plug), and Type C (two circular plugs).

Which activity do we have planned for the last day of the tour?

The last day of our scheduled package activities is a free day for you to explore the city of Puno. The timing depends on your scheduled flight. We recommend making the most of this opportunity by exploring the local streets and shopping for souvenirs.

A Waman Adventures driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport. Once you arrive at the airport, our services will be complete.

What if I have a physical condition?

It is essential to inform us in advance of any injuries or special medical conditions. We strongly advise consulting your doctor before traveling. As a responsible travel agency, we care about our travelers’ well-being.

The information you provide will be very important for our team so that we can supply any necessary items for your care. If you require special medication, you must bring it with you during your journey. Additionally, we must be informed about your condition so our guide is prepared to assist and avoid possible inconveniences due to it.

Is it necessary to acclimatize for this trip?

It is very important to acclimatize in order to fully enjoy your trip and overcome altitude challenges, especially if you come from areas below 1,000 m / 3,280 ft. This package includes visits to Cusco (3,350 m / 11,154 ft), Rainbow Mountain (5,020 m / 16,469 ft), Humantay Lake (4,200 m / 13,779 ft), and Puno.

Because of this, Waman Adventures designates the first day in Cusco for rest or light activities near the city, giving you time to acclimatize. We recommend staying well hydrated to improve oxygenation and trying coca leaves, whether in tea or candy form, which help combat altitude sickness.

What do I need to enter Peru?

Citizens of countries such as Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia can enter Peru by presenting only their national identity card. Travelers from Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, and other countries must present a valid passport with an expiration date of at least 6 months from their arrival in Peru. No visa is required, except for travelers from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, and Kosovo.

Where can I store my luggage during my Machu Picchu visit?

For convenience and comfort, leave your heavy luggage at your hotel. Most hotels offer luggage storage free of charge.

You should carry no more than 5 kilos of luggage on the second day of your train trip. For this reason, and for your own comfort, you should bring only a daypack with the necessary items to spend one day in Machu Picchu, while you are away from your hotel in Cusco.

Is Peru dangerous to travel?

Travel safety in Peru depends on many factors, but you can have a smooth and safe trip by following a few simple precautions.

If you plan to visit Peru, we recommend researching the areas you wish to explore and following basic guidelines, just as you would when traveling anywhere else in the world: avoid displaying valuables and stay alert in crowded places.

Additionally, we suggest reviewing your government’s travel advisories to understand the current situation in Peru, enabling you to make well-informed decisions and enjoy your trip to the fullest.

Most tourists who take sensible precautions find Peru to be safe. The people are friendly and hospitable, so don’t hesitate to explore this beautiful country.

What happens if a tour is canceled due to weather conditions or strikes?

Because of factors beyond the travel agency’s control, these tours are non-refundable. We arrange all visits and tours months in advance of your trip to secure tickets and fares. Check out our terms and conditions.

Is it possible to choose my seat for my train trip to Machupicchu?

Rail transport companies, such as Peru Rail and Inca Rail, do not allow passengers to choose specific seat numbers in the train cars. Instead, seats are allocated randomly, depending on availability for the chosen travel date. To ensure a smoother experience for our travelers, Waman Adventures purchases tickets for your chosen date, guaranteeing the proposed services, while seat assignments are managed internally.

Is the Expedition train service better than the Vistadome train service?

Both trains cover the same route at similar times. However, the Vistadome offers slightly more comfort compared to the Expedition service. The windows and ceilings on the Vistadome train are larger, and there is a bit more space between the seats.

Additionally, the Vistadome service from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) to Ollantaytambo features a dance show and a fashion show with baby alpaca garments.

Do our travel packages include international flights?

Waman Adventures works with travelers arriving from all around the world, focusing on the Peruvian services we provide. For that reason, international flights are not currently included. However, we have trained staff who will be happy to help you research and organize your flights in the best possible way.

Note: Some of our travel packages do include local flights (Lima–Cusco, Cusco–Lima, and Juliaca–Lima).

Do I have to pay an individual supplement if I am a solo traveller?

Yes, our listed prices are based on double occupancy, meaning two people share a room. If you are traveling solo and prefer your own room, an additional charge—known as a single supplement—will apply. This can be discussed with our sales team at the time of booking. It covers the cost of allocating a room exclusively for you (which does not significantly differ in price or space from a double room).

What type of ground transport is used on the tours?

Waman Adventures provides comfortable transportation such as Mercedes Benz Sprinters and Hyundai H360s. These vehicles undergo weekly technical inspections and are no more than 5 years old, in compliance with the law.

Is it possible to add additional hotel nights before or after my booked tour?

Yes, at Waman Adventures we can arrange extra nights in the hotels we work with, according to each traveler’s individual needs.

For more information or to reserve extra nights, we recommend contacting one of our sales agents. We will gladly arrange extra nights and additional options.

Note: All hotel reservations must be made 30 days prior to your booking date.

What is the ideal age to visit Machu Picchu?

There is no strict age limit; babies and children must be accompanied by parents or guardians, while teenagers, adults, and even older travelers can visit Machu Picchu.

How advisable is it to get travel insurance for the PERU HIGHLIGHTS - 8 DAYS WITH LOCAL FLIGHTS (LIMA TO CUSCO AND CUSCO TO LIMA)?

For your Cusco and Machu Picchu Tour, we recommend travel insurance.

Travel insurance can give you peace of mind and protection against natural disasters, injuries, illnesses, trip cancellations, and other emergencies.

Here are some travel insurance websites you may consider:

assistcard.com

mapfre.com

intermundial.co.uk

fiatc.co.uk

Can I access the internet during this package?

During your travel package, you will have internet access in the hotels we include. However, you can also purchase a SIM card that will allow you to access the internet in Peru.

This is an important consideration because drones cannot fly over archaeological sites such as Saqsayhuaman, Machu Picchu, or Tambomachay.

However, they can be used in certain locations including the Sacred Valley, Main Square, Aguas Calientes, Lima, Ica, and Puno, as long as they are not in prohibited zones.

Can I travel to Peru without vaccinations?

There is generally no strict vaccination requirement for traveling to Peru. However, the Peruvian government takes the health and well-being of its visitors seriously, so certain recommendations apply. If you plan on exploring the Amazon, receiving the yellow fever vaccine prior to arrival is highly advised.

If you realize at the last minute that you need a vaccination, the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima can provide certain vaccines before you begin your Peruvian adventure.

How long is the bus ride from Lima to Paracas?

The bus ride from Lima to Paracas typically takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic conditions and any scheduled stops. Departures often occur in the early morning to allow sufficient time to explore Paracas and the Ballestas Islands on the same day.

What should I do if I get seasick during the Ballestas Islands tour?

If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking medication (such as motion sickness pills) before boarding the boat. Staying hydrated and focusing on the horizon can also help. Inform your guide if you feel unwell so they can assist you. The ride to the Ballestas Islands is usually relatively calm, but it’s always best to be prepared.

Is a special permit required for the Nazca Lines flight?

When booking the Nazca Lines overflight, you will need to provide your passport details to secure a spot on the airplane. You do not need a separate special permit, but you must follow the instructions given by the airline, including carrying your passport for identity verification. The flight operator will handle any flight-related authorizations.
