Altitude alone does not measure difficulty. Compare walking distance, ascent, consecutive hiking days and how the high point is reached. Both views use the same landmark data. These are partial profiles, not GPS tracks. The lowest plotted point is not the complete itinerary minimum.

CHOOSE WITH CONFIDENCE
Compare routes, understand what is included and plan your next step.
Ask our Cusco teamStart with the experience you want: the Classic Inca Trail for Inca sites and a multi-day camping journey; Salkantay for mountain scenery; Inca Jungle for cycling and trekking; Lares for mountain trails and Andean communities; Huchuy Qosqo for Sacred Valley heritage; or Choquequirao for its Inca citadel. Then compare hiking days, accommodation and included destinations. Compare the itineraries.
The selected Classic and Short Inca Trail, Salkantay, Inca Jungle, Lares and Huchuy Qosqo itineraries include Machu Picchu. The selected 5-day Choquequirao trek does not. The Choquequirao collection also lists combined trips, so check the specific itinerary. Including Machu Picchu does not mean every route walks directly into the archaeological site.
Choose the 4-day Classic Inca Trail if your priority is the historic trail, archaeological sites and the Sun Gate approach. Consider the 5-day Salkantay Trek if mountain landscapes are your priority. Both involve demanding hiking. Compare daily walking, overnight arrangements and permit availability rather than deciding from altitude alone.
The 2-day Short Inca Trail is an option to discuss if you prefer a shorter hiking section and a hotel stay instead of several camping nights. A shorter itinerary is not automatically easy: steps, terrain and walking time still matter. Share your recent hiking experience and available preparation time before choosing.
See the featured tour cardsfor starting prices in US dollars per person. Compare the same dates, service type, accommodation and inclusions. Request a final quote before paying; a displayed price does not confirm availability.
Check Machu Picchu entry and circuit, any Inca Trail permit, pickup and return transport, train service, camping or hotel nights, meals, guiding, baggage support and equipment. Then check exclusions such as sleeping-bag rental, poles, optional activities and upgrades. This is a comparison checklist, not a list of services included in every tour. Open your selected itinerary and ask for an itemized quote.
The drier Andean season is usually the starting point for planning a trekking trip. Mid-year months such as June, July and August fall within that season, but dry-season travel does not guarantee clear skies or warm nights. Choose your month together with route conditions and availability. Read Peru Travel’s seasonal overview and ask about your preferred dates.
Ask as soon as you have a preferred travel window, especially when your dates are fixed. Inca Trail permits and Machu Picchu tickets must be checked for the actual itinerary; a tour listing is not live availability. There is no single booking deadline that applies to every route or departure. Check Inca Trail availability information and request confirmation from Waman.
Allow time for altitude acclimatization before strenuous trekking and review both daytime and sleeping elevations in your plan. The appropriate schedule depends on your arrival altitude, recent exposure and itinerary; a fixed number of days cannot guarantee protection from altitude illness. Discuss individual medical concerns with a qualified clinician. Read CDC guidance on high-altitude travel.
The Classic Inca Trail is a camping journey; the Short Inca Trail includes a hotel stay. Other routes may combine different overnight arrangements. Check each night of the selected itinerary, not just the general accommodation label. Also ask which camping equipment is supplied and whether any rental or hotel upgrade costs extra.
Yes. Choose a dedicated Choquequirao itinerary rather than a combined Choquequirao–Machu Picchu journey. The 5-day Choquequirao trek in this comparison focuses on the citadel and canyon landscapes. Review its daily walking and return arrangements before deciding.
This collection covers Cusco and the surrounding Andes in southern Peru, including the Sacred Valley and Choquequirao area. It brings together six route families rather than a nationwide selection of trekking regions. Compare pickup locations and transport in each tour; not every hiking stage starts in Cusco city.
