FAQS

What is the weather like during the Cusco and Machu Picchu Tour?

The Cusco region and the entire Andean area, in general, are limited to two seasons: the rainy and dry season. These are present in areas such as the cloud forest (Machu Picchu or Inca Jungle) where the weather is warmer because of being jungle. The rainy season lasts approximately five months (November to March), and during these months there is a lot of rain. Meanwhile, the dry season lasts from April to October, when blue skies are common, making these months ideal for visiting.

Note: April and November are considered transition months, which can be months of unpredictable weather.

What is the starting and ending point of this travel package?

This fascinating tour starts and ends at Cusco’s airport or bus station. Remember that our tour includes pick-up and drop-off services. So, do not worry about transport from the airport to your hotel or vice versa.

Is it better to bring dollars or soles?

It is advisable to travel to Peru carrying U.S. dollars. It is recommended that you look for an exchange house with a reasonable exchange rate. Airport exchange rates are often bad.

It is recommended that you exchange your currency with dollars (Mexican pesos, Colombian pesos, Argentinean pesos, etc.). Once in Cusco city, the exchange rate for non-dollar currencies is usually lower.

The most convenient place to sell your dollars is Sun Av. This avenue is near the Main Square and there are a lot of exchange houses on it. However, our staff is always available to give you guidance on this matter.

You should take Peruvian soles with you since most tourist businesses accept soles and a few dollars during the tour.

How many travelers will share this experience with me?

Waman Adventures offers services for small groups. Typically, our packages or tours require a minimum of two travelers and a maximum of 17. If the group number is more than 12 people, your group will be led by a main guide and an assistant guide.

Is accommodation included in this travel package? Can I choose the accommodation I like?

Our travel packages include accommodations according to duration and double occupancy. We can offer double rooms with 2 twin or double beds. If you are 3 travelers we can provide a triple room with 3 single beds or the type of accommodation you prefer.

On the other hand, if you are only one person, you must pay an individual supplement for your accommodation in the hotel. This is due to the fact that the price of a single room and a double room in Peru is almost the same. It is necessary to contact our sales agents to provide these details regarding the type of accommodation.

The accommodation we provide in Lima is the Miramar Hotel; in Cusco is the Ayni Cusco Hotel, Monasterio San Pedro or similar; in Aguas Calientes is the Golden Sunrise Hotel; in Puno is the Royal Inn Hotel, Kalayasa or similar. All of them are 3-star accommodations.

What is the minimum age to travel?

The recommended minimum age to participate in these tours is 6 years old. Please note that it is not advisable for children aged 0 to 7 to take part in these tours. Furthermore, minors must be accompanied by responsible adults 18 years or older throughout the tour.

Can I travel with minors? Is there a discount for minors?

Yes, of course. But under the supervision of an adult, since the agency is not responsible for accidents. The minimum recommended age is 6 years old and the maximum age is 60 years old (this age can be higher as long as these participants are in good physical condition and do not suffer from heart or respiratory problems, always under their own responsibility).

Extras:

  • Children between 6 to 9 years old have a special discount of 85.00 USD.
  • Children between 10 to 16 years old have a special discount of 25.00 USD.
Is it possible to charge my electronic devices during my tour?

Of course, yes. Guests can charge their electronic devices at hotels. Peru’s voltage is 220 volts or 60HZ AC. If you connect electrical devices made for lower current voltages, you will damage them. In this case it is recommended to bring a voltage adapter to care for your electrical appliance.

The most common plugs in Peru are Type A (two parallel rectangular slits), Type B (two parallel slits plus a third circular plug), and Type C (two circular plugs).

Is there a planned activity for the final day of the tour?

Typically, the last day of our packages is free to explore the city or rest, depending on your flight schedule. Our driver will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the airport. Upon reaching the airport, our services will conclude.

Is there anything I should know if I have an adverse physical condition?

We highly advise travelers to inform us in advance if they have any previous injuries or medical conditions. It’s crucial to consult with your doctor to ensure you are physically capable of participating in your trip.

Armed with this information, our guides will be equipped with first aid kits. If you require personal medication, ensure you have it with you during the tours. Please maintain open communication with your guide regarding your condition and any potential issues that may arise.

Is acclimatization necessary for this trip?

Yes. If you are from a place lower than 3000 ft, it is recommended to be aware of acclimatization.

We spent the first day of our travel package acclimatizing. It is highly recommended to hydrate yourself well upon arrival in Cusco to oxygenate your body. In order to combat soroche, coca leaf-based products such as chocolate, drinks, and candies are highly recommended.

What do I need to enter Peru?

People from countries such as Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia can enter Peru by presenting only their national identity card. For countries such as Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, and others, they must present a valid passport with an expiry date of not less than 6 months from the date of entry into Peru. A visa is not required, except for travelers from countries such as Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia and Kosovo.

Where can I store my luggage during my visit to Machu Picchu?

For convenience and comfort, it is recommended to leave your heavy luggage at your Cusco accommodation. Most hotels offer luggage storage services for free.

You must carry no more than 5 kilos of luggage on the second day of your train trip. For this reason, and for your comfort you should only carry a daypack with the necessary items to spend the day in Machu Picchu while you are away from your hotel in Cusco.

What happens if a tour is canceled due to weather conditions or strikes?

Because of factors outside the control of the travel agency, these tours are non-refundable. We arrange all visits and tours months in advance of your trip to secure tickets and fares. Check out our trems and conditions.

Can I choose my seat for my Machupicchu train trip?

Travel agencies are not always allowed to choose seats in train cars from Peru Rail or Inca Rail, all seats are allocated and purchased based on availability. Tickets will always be purchased based on your travel date, rather than the specific number of seats.

Is Expedition train service better than Vistadome train service?

Both trains make the same trip during the same period of time, along the same train tracks, and on very similar schedules. However, the Vistadome is a little more comfortable than the Expedition train service. The windows and ceilings of the Vistadome train are wider than those of the Expedition train. There are also slightly larger spaces between seats in the Vistadome. Finally, another difference is that the Vistadome service from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) to Ollantaytambo offers a dance show and a fashion show with baby alpaca garments.

Those factors will make your trip easier to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Do our travel packages include international flights?

Waman Adventures works with passengers arriving from around the world, and we focus on Peruvian territory service that we provide. For this reason, international flights are not possible at the moment. However, we have trained staff that will gladly help you quote and organize your flights better.

Note: Some of our travel packages do include local air flights on the Lima-Cusco, Cusco-Lima and Juliaca-Lima flights.

Will I be charged a single supplement if I am a solo traveller?

As a single traveler, you will have to pay an additional fee that you will need to ask our sales consultants because you will have a room just for you. Our prices are based on double occupancy, 2 people sharing a room.

What type of ground transport is used in the tours?

Waman Adventures works with comfortable transport such as the Mercedes Benz Sprinter and Hyundai H360. These transportation units undergo weekly technical revisions and are not more than 5 years old. As required by law, all of this is done.

Is it possible to add additional nights of hotel accommodation before or after my booked tour?

Yes, at Waman Adventures we can arrange additional nights in the hotels we work with according to the particular requirements of each of our passengers.

For more information or to reserve extra nights we recommend contacting one of our sales agents. We will make the necessary arrangements for extra nights and options.

Note: All hotel reservations are made 30 days before your reservation date.

What is the ideal age to visit Machu Picchu?

There is no age limit. People of all ages can visit the citadel without any problem.

Is there an internet during this trip?

Yes, you will have an internet connection in the hotels we included in your travel package. However, it is possible to buy a SIM card that allows internet access in Peruvian territory.

Can I take my drone on tour days?

This is an important point because drones cannot be flown over archaeological sites such as Saqsayhuaman, Machu Picchu, or Tambomachay.

But throughout this trip, you will be able to use it over the Sacred Valley, Main Square and Aguas Calientes.
