Explore the landscapes along your route through the tour photos and video.
Explore the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Visit Chinchero, Moray and the Maras salt pans, then take the train to Aguas Calientes and discover Machu Picchu with a guide on your confirmed entry route.
Hike two very different Andean landscapes. See the mineral-colored slopes of Rainbow Mountain (16,470 ft / 5,020 m) and the turquoise water of Humantay Lake (13,780 ft / 4,200 m) on separate days.
Cross the Andes on the Route of the Sun. Travel from Cusco to Puno with cultural stops at Andahuaylillas, Raqchi and Pukara, plus sweeping views at La Raya Pass.
Spend a night on Amantani Island. Meet a local family on Lake Titicaca, share a home-cooked dinner and visit Taquile the next day. Your journey includes eight nights, five lunches and one island dinner; flights are not included.
YOUR JOURNEY, DAY BY DAY
Explore the route and the details of each stage of your experience.
We will meet you at Cusco Airport and take you to your hotel in Cusco (11,155 ft / 3,400 m). Your pickup will be coordinated with the flight details you provide. Flights to Cusco are not included.
The rest of the day will be free to settle in and rest. If you feel well, you will be able to take a gentle walk near your hotel and choose somewhere for dinner. There is no scheduled city tour, so you can keep this first afternoon relaxed.
DAY 2 OF 9
Discover weaving traditions and Inca terraces before following the Urubamba Valley by train.
After breakfast we will travel to Chinchero (12,343 ft / 3,762 m), where you will discover local weaving traditions and Inca stonework. We will then continue to Moray (11,417 ft / 3,480 m), known for its circular agricultural terraces.
At the Maras salt pans (10,499 ft / 3,200 m), you will see how spring water feeds the salt pools and learn about the work behind this distinctive landscape.
Later we will take you to Ollantaytambo station (9,160 ft / 2,792 m) for the train to Aguas Calientes (6,726 ft / 2,050 m). The stop in Ollantaytambo is for boarding the train; a guided visit to its archaeological site is not included. Bring a small overnight bag and check the luggage allowance for your confirmed service.
DAY 3 OF 9
Explore the Inca city with your guide before returning to Cusco by train and road.
After breakfast we will take the shuttle bus to Machu Picchu (7,972 ft / 2,430 m). Bring the original travel document used for your admission ticket. Your visit will follow the circuit and entry time confirmed for your booking.
Your guide will explain the stonework, architecture and history of the areas along that route. Viewpoints and access vary by circuit, so let us know before booking if there is a particular view you hope to see. Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are optional visits requiring separate tickets and compatible timing.
We will return by shuttle to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch at your expense before the scheduled train to Ollantaytambo. From there, our vehicle will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
DAY 4 OF 9
Walk into the high Andes to see Rainbow Mountain’s colorful mineral bands.
We will leave Cusco early and travel toward Cusipata (10,925 ft / 3,330 m), stopping for breakfast before continuing by vehicle to the trailhead. From there we will begin the hike, taking breaks along the way.
Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) (16,470 ft / 5,020 m) is the highest point of this trip. Its mineral bands stand out against the surrounding Andean landscape, with their appearance changing in the sunlight and cloud cover. The elevation makes the walk demanding, even when the distance feels manageable.
After the visit we will retrace the trail, stop for the included lunch and drive back to Cusco. Bring warm layers, rain protection and shoes with good grip, and tell the guide promptly if you feel unwell.
DAY 5 OF 9
Hike from Soraypampa to a turquoise lake surrounded by mountain scenery.
We will leave Cusco early for Mollepata (9,196 ft / 2,803 m), where we will stop for breakfast. We will then continue to Soraypampa (12,730 ft / 3,880 m), the starting point of the walk.
The uphill trail will take us to Humantay Lake (13,780 ft / 4,200 m). We will make stops along the way so you can manage the climb at a steady pace. At the lake, you will have time to enjoy the water and surrounding peaks; clear views will depend on the weather.
We will descend along the same trail, have the included lunch during the return journey and drive back to Cusco. This will be your last night in the city, so prepare your luggage for the next day’s journey to Puno.
DAY 6 OF 9
Cross the southern Andes with cultural stops along the Route of the Sun.
After breakfast we will join the tourist bus to Puno (12,507 ft / 3,812 m). Along the Route of the Sun, we will visit Andahuaylillas (10,240 ft / 3,121 m), known for its decorated colonial church, and Raqchi (11,490 ft / 3,502 m), associated with the temple of Wiracocha.
We will have lunch during the journey, cross La Raya Pass (14,232 ft / 4,338 m) and continue to Pukara (12,828 ft / 3,910 m) for the scheduled museum visit. The stops will break up the drive with short walks and a closer look at the region’s history.
On arrival in Puno, we will take you to your hotel. Keep a small bag ready for the following day’s boat excursion and overnight stay on Amantani Island.
DAY 7 OF 9
Visit the floating islands and share an evening with a host family on Amantani.
After breakfast we will travel by boat across Lake Titicaca (12,500 ft / 3,810 m). We will first visit the Uros floating islands, where residents will explain how they use totora reeds to build and maintain their island homes.
We will continue to Amantani Island, meet your host family and have lunch. The afternoon will give you a closer look at island life. Your guide will explain the planned walk toward Pachatata and Pachamama and how it fits the day’s timing and conditions.
In the evening you will share dinner and stay in the family home. Expect simpler facilities than in a city hotel, and bring warm clothing, personal toiletries and a flashlight. Any community gathering will depend on the arrangements made for that evening.
DAY 8 OF 9
Discover Taquile’s textile traditions before returning to your hotel in Puno.
After breakfast with your host family, we will leave Amantani by boat and continue to Taquile Island. You will learn about its textile traditions and the skills that local families pass between generations.
We will walk through the Taquile visitor areas (12,959 ft / 3,950 m), following uneven paths and steps. Take your time on the uphill stretches, bring drinking water and keep a layer handy for the wind on the boat. Lunch will be included during the island visit.
In the afternoon we will return to Puno and transfer you to your hotel for the final night. Check your onward flight details and have your luggage ready for the next day’s airport transfer.
DAY 9 OF 9
Leave Puno with a transfer timed to your onward flight from Juliaca.
After breakfast at your hotel in Puno (12,507 ft / 3,812 m), we will pick you up at the agreed time and take you by road to Juliaca Airport. Share your flight details in advance so we can coordinate the departure from your hotel.
You will have free time only if your flight schedule allows it. The nine-day program ends with the airport transfer; your flight is booked separately.

I have another question ↗The tour lasts 9 days and 8 nights. It starts with pickup at Cusco Airport and ends with the transfer from Puno to Juliaca Airport on Day 9. Share your flight details so both transfers can be coordinated. International and domestic flights are not included.
You will spend four nights in Cusco, one in Aguas Calientes and two in Puno, plus one night with a family on Amantani Island. The accommodation section lists the planned hotels. Confirm your assigned properties, room arrangements and any single-room supplement before booking.
You will stay in a local family home and share lunch, dinner and breakfast. Facilities are simpler than those of a city hotel, and hot water should not be assumed. Bring a small overnight bag, warm clothing, personal toiletries and a flashlight. Tell us about mobility needs or dietary requirements before booking.
On Day 7 we will visit the Uros floating islands and continue to Amantani for the family stay. On Day 8 we will visit Taquile, have lunch and return to Puno. If you only want the lake experience, you can compare the two-day Uros, Amantani and Taquile tour.
Your visit follows the circuit and entry time confirmed on your admission ticket. Access to terraces, viewpoints and archaeological sectors varies by route. Tell us before booking if a particular view matters to you so we can check the available options. You can also read the official overview of Machu Picchu circuits.
These mountain visits are not included. The listed optional surcharge is US$85.00 per traveler, subject to ticket availability and timing compatible with your guided visit and return train. Ask us to check the connections before purchasing an additional ticket.
The standard round-trip service is Inca Rail Voyager or PeruRail Expedition, as confirmed for your booking. The listed Vistadome supplement is US$120.00 per traveler round trip or US$50.00 for the return segment only. These are alternative upgrades, subject to availability. Check the baggage allowance for your confirmed service.
Both involve uphill walking at high elevation. Rainbow Mountain (16,470 ft / 5,020 m) is the highest point of the package, while Humantay Lake (13,780 ft / 4,200 m) also requires a sustained climb. Fitness, weather and your response to altitude affect the effort. The Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain comparison explains the differences.
Day 1 is free after the arrival transfer, and the two mountain hikes take place on Days 4 and 5. This gives you time before the most demanding outings, but it does not guarantee that you will avoid altitude symptoms. Tell your guide if you feel unwell and discuss any concerns before booking. Our Cusco acclimatization guide provides further information for planning.
The package includes eight breakfasts, five lunches and one dinner. Breakfasts are included from Days 2–9; the Day 8 breakfast is at the Amantani homestay. Lunches are included on Days 4–8, and dinner on Day 7 is with your host family. Other meals and additional drinks are at your expense.
Please tell us your requirements before booking. Meals are served at several locations, including a family home on Amantani, so the available options will differ. We will check what can be arranged for your trip before confirming any special menu.
The package lists a maximum of 10 travelers and departures with a minimum of two. If you are traveling alone, contact us to check an existing departure and room options. A single-room supplement may apply. Confirm the arrangements for the Amantani homestay as well as the hotels.
The itinerary includes high-altitude hikes, island paths and steps. Consider the walking demands and each traveler’s mobility before booking, and share the ages and needs of your group. The child rate in the price table does not mean every activity will suit every child. Student-rate documentation and any applicable participation requirements should be confirmed before payment.
Allow for the road transfer from Puno and the check-in requirements of your airline. Send us your proposed flight details before buying a nonrefundable ticket so we can check the transfer arrangements. There is no scheduled sightseeing visit on Day 9.
Use a small overnight bag for Aguas Calientes and Amantani, and a daypack for the hikes. Check the train baggage allowance and coordinate storage of larger bags in Cusco before the Machu Picchu portion. For the island stay, confirm luggage storage arrangements in Puno and keep warm clothing and personal essentials with you.
Yes. The six-day Cusco, Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain tour is an alternative without the journey to Puno and the island homestay. Compare its itinerary and inclusions before choosing.
Review the booking terms and conditions together with the conditions shown for your reservation before payment. If weather or access restrictions affect an activity, the available arrangements will depend on the services booked and the applicable terms. Ask about any condition that matters to your dates before confirming.
