What is the best season to do the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

The best season to do the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During this season the weather conditions are more stable, with less rainfall, clear skies and bright sunshine.

How many days should I acclimatise in Cusco before the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

On the tour, you will not be exposed to higher altitudes, but it is necessary to acclimatise the first day you arrive in Cusco. It would be great if you do the city tour for your proper adaptation to altitude. Don’t forget to drink coca tea!

Should I carry soles or dollars?

You should bring US dollars as your main currency for your tour. Once you arrive in Cusco, exchange these dollars for Peruvian soles. You will find numerous exchange houses on Sun Av. We suggest you compare several exchange rates to get the best exchange rate available.

Avoid exchanging your money at Peru’s airports, as they tend to offer less favourable exchange rates. In addition, it is advisable to carry an adequate amount of Peruvian soles during your tour days, as most tourist businesses at the stops accept payment in soles, and some may accept dollars, but it is useful to have the local currency for convenience.

How many travellers will share the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour with me?

Waman Adventures offers services in small groups. The minimum number of travellers for the packages or tours we offer is TWO, and if this is the case, you may join a group of no more than 17 travellers.

If the group is larger than 12 people, your group will consist of a main guide and an assistant guide.

Will I have to pay a single supplement if I am a solo traveller?

Yes, our offer prices are calculated on the basis of double occupancy, which means that two people share a room. For single travellers wishing to venture out on their own, an additional charge will apply, which you can discuss with our sales advisors when booking. This is because you will be allocated a room exclusively for yourself (which does not vary significantly in space and price compared to a double room), and therefore a corresponding single supplement applies.

Is accommodation included in the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour? Can I choose the accommodation I like?

Accommodation is included in the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour, for the 4 nights of the tour, based on double occupancy. We can offer double rooms with 2 beds, single or double beds. For 3 travelers, we can arrange for a triple room with 3 single beds or any other type of accommodation you prefer. It is necessary to contact our sales agents to provide these details regarding the type of accommodation.

However, if you are only one person, you have to pay an individual supplement for your hotel rooms.

The accommodation we provide in Cusco is the Ayni Cusco Hotel, Monasterio San Pedro or similar. In Machu Picchu Pueblo, also called Aguas Calientes, is the Golden Sunrise Hotel or similar.

What is the minimum age for the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

The minimum age recommended for these experiences is 8 years old. It is not recommended for children from 0 to 7 years old. It is also compulsory for all minors to be accompanied by responsible adults (over 18 years old) at all times. See the “Extras” section in the packages or contact our sales agents directly to find out the charge for minors up to 11 years of age at the time of travel. Seniors 12 years and older are charged at the regular rate. The maximum recommended age for this experience is 60 years of age.

Is it possible to charge my electronic devices during my Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

Of course, you can charge your electronic devices in the hotels included in your tour package. The voltage in Peru is 220 volts or 60HZ AC. In case you connect electrical devices made for lower current voltage, you may damage them. In this case it is recommended to bring a voltage adapter to care for your electrical appliance.

In Peru, the most common plugs are Type A (two parallel rectangular slits); Type B (two parallel slits plus a third circular plug); and Type C (two circular plugs).

Do we have planned any activity for the last day of the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

Most of our packages have a free day on the last day. You can tour the city or rest according to your flight schedule. Our driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport. Once at the airport, our services will be concluded.

What do I need to enter Peru?

People from countries such as Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia can enter Peru by presenting only their national identity card. In the case of countries such as Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica and others; they must present their passport with a validity of not less than 06 months from their entry into Peruvian territory. A visa is not required, except for travellers coming from countries such as Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia and Kosovo, which require it.

Where can I store my luggage during my visit to Machu Picchu?

For convenience and comfort, it is recommended that you leave your heavy luggage at your accommodation in Cusco. Most hotels have luggage storage services free of charge.

During your trip by train (mandatory to get to Machu Picchu quickly) you will take the services of Peru Rail or Inca Rail, and these railway companies will only allow you to carry 5 kilos of luggage. For this reason and for your comfort you should only carry a light backpack or small suitcase with the necessary items to spend the night and make visits while you are away from your hotel in Cusco, to which you will have to return.

What happens if the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour is cancelled due to weather conditions or strikes?

Being factors outside the control of the travel agency, these tours are non-refundable. All visits and tours are arranged months in advance of your trip to secure entrance tickets and passage throughout your trip.

Can I choose my seat for my Machupicchu train journey?

Travel agencies cannot always choose seats in train carriages because Peru Rail or Inca Rail does not always allow them to choose. Seats are assigned and bought randomly according to availability. The agency will always endeavour to purchase tickets for your travel date, with the number of specific seats taking second place.

Otherwise, you can purchase your train tickets on your own. However, we as a travel agency will purchase the tickets for your convenience.

Which is the better train service to Machu Picchu: Expedition or Vistadome?

Both trains run the same route for the same length of time, on the same train tracks and with very similar timetables. However, if you want more space and panoramic views, opt for the Vistadome train.

The scenery is very changeable during the train journey, from a mountainous area to the edge of the jungle (Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu village). The Vistadome train, unlike the Expedition train, has wider windows in its walls and ceiling. Vistadome also has larger spaces between seats. Throughout your journey, all of these factors make it easier for you to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Another difference is that the Vistadome service from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu village) to Ollantaytambo offers a dance show and fashion show with baby alpaca garments.

Does the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu travel package include international airfare?

Waman Adventures works with passengers coming from all over the world and focus on the service we provide within the Peruvian territory, for this reason it is not possible for us to include international air tickets at the moment. However, we do have highly trained staff who will be happy to help you quote and organise your flights in the best way possible.

What type of ground transportation is used on the tours?

Our passengers’ comfort is our priority, which is why we always use state-of-the-art tourist transport, suitable for all our private and group services. These transport units undergo weekly technical inspections and are no more than 5 years old. All of this is in accordance with tourist regulations.

Can I book additional hotel nights before or after my contracted tour?

The answer is yes, at Waman Adventures we can arrange additional nights in the hotels we work with. This is according to the particular requirements of each of our passengers.

For more information or to reserve extra nights we recommend contacting one of our sales agents. We will make the necessary arrangements for extra nights and options.

Note: All hotel reservations must be made 30 days before your booking date.

Can I access the internet during my Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

Yes, you will have an internet connection in the hotels included in your travel package. All the hotels we work with have wi-fi service. Also if you like you can choose to purchase a local phone chip, and along with it opt for a data package ranging from 15 soles to more, always depending on the type of service you want.

Can I take my drone on the Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

No, the use of drones is not permitted, as, by the supreme decree of the Peruvian government, their use is not allowed in any archaeological centre or attraction that we will visit during our tour days in Cusco. However, as long as they are not the aforementioned areas you can fly a drone over certain rural areas of the Andes. For more information please contact our sales team.
