Highlight of the Day: Share Unique Moments in the Vast Bogs of Lake Apu Victor and Interact with Our Friends on Monkey Island

We start waking up by the Red Howler Monkey, alerting us to prepare for this second day. We will have breakfast at our lodge with typical regional ingredients. Ready? We will begin our hike into the deep secondary forest. Can I get lost? The path is well-marked and cleaned. Along the way, we will pass through terra firme and descend into the flooded forests heading towards LAKE APU VICTOR. So, the best part is collecting seeds, observing tall trees, and learning about medicinal trees that sustain animals and human populations in the Amazon forests. These include Agüaje, Mahogany, Brazilian Nut, Catahua, Cedar, Cetico, Copaiba, and Shihuahuaco.

Silence! During the journey, we may have the chance to spot some animals, but we must remain calm and relatively silent to see them, such as the tapir and peccary; rodents like the giant otter, capybara, agouti, and armadillo; primates like the howler monkey, black-capped squirrel monkey, and capuchin monkey; reptiles like the iguana and fer-de-lance; amphibians like the toad; and birds like the chachalacas, golden parakeet, and the blue, yellow, and Scarlet Macaw.

We arrive at Lake Apu Victor, where we are welcomed by macaws and gigantic trees. This place features an Amazonian lookout (a large canopy tower) from which we will enjoy a panoramic view of the lake, observing parrots, macaws, toucans, screamers, hoatzins, herons, and other animals like caimans and turtles. Additionally, there are other species associated with the lake, such as the motelo, matamata, aguajal turtle, Squirrel Monkeys, Red Brocket Deer, agouti, and the Giant River Otters of the Amazon Rainforest.

After our activity, we will return to our lodge, where a delicious lunch awaits us to recharge and get ready for our next excursion. In the afternoon, we will start hiking. Will you join us? The journey will be short, heading to Monkey Island. This place showcases plenty of flora and hosts numerous primate species, such as the Spider Monkey, Back Capuchin Monkey, Squirrel Monkey, and Tamarin Monkey. We will also find other small mammals like the Coati, squirrels, and wide bird diversity. Prepare your camera! We will return to our lodge with the farewell of a beautiful sunset and the falling sun. Dinner and rest await us for the next day.

Highlight of the Day: The famous howler monkey will bid us farewell from its home.

Our day starts with a lot of energy and connection with nature. Need an alarm? Don’t worry, powerful howlings of the howler monkey will help us a lot. It’s also time to have our rich breakfast and get ready to depart back to the Capitanía port and say goodbye to nature. At the port, the transportation will be ready to take you to the airport or your hotel.

This experience will immerse you in the breathtaking biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. During your stay, you will enjoy jungle walks spotting wildlife, canoe trips along winding rivers, the opportunity to observe Amazonian birds in their natural habitat, and accommodations in sustainable ecolodges. These lodges will connect you with nature and offer a deeper understanding of conservation efforts in the tropical rainforest.

This little paradise stands in one of the most biodiverse places, in the region of Madre de Dios. It is also one of the best areas for ecotourism activities due to its proximity to the Tambopata National Reserve and other protected areas of the Peruvian Amazon.

It is recommended to take this trip between May and October, the ideal season due to the favorable weather conditions that makes easier to walk around and comfortably appreciate flora and fauna.

Note: Traveling during the months not mentioned offers a different perspective on the weather and activities due to the rainy season.

This fabulous place has a warm and humid climate, ideal for wildlife. Temperatures range between 28°C and 33°C, rarely dropping below 20°C.

Don’t forget: Bring essential items mentioned in the “Packing List” section to be prepared for the season you visit.

According to the Ministry of Health (MINSA), they recommend getting vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days before the trip. Remember: Our tour will take place in jungle areas, and it is important to be protected.

During our activities, we will be staying in bungalows, ideal places to connect with nature. Their aesthetics blend with the surroundings as they aim not to interfere with the local flora and fauna.

These establishments offer leisure services such as bars and game rooms, where you can relax after the activities mentioned in the itinerary.

We recommend booking flights that arrive in Puerto Maldonado before 11 a.m. and scheduling your return flight for after 1 p.m. This ensures you can fully enjoy your trip without external worries.

Swimming in rivers and lakes during our tour is prohibited due to the presence of caimans and other territorial mammals. Additionally, aquatic roots can hinder swimming and pose a certain danger degree.

We recommend enjoying this activity within Eco Amazonia Lodge (Bungalows), which has swimming pools for you to enjoy.

We recommend bringing lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral colors.

Remember: Bring long-sleeved shirts, pants, comfortable footwear, and hats or caps to protect yourself from the sun and mosquitoes, which will be present throughout our tour.

During our activities, you will have the opportunity to see wildlife such as capybaras, caimans, aquatic turtles, herons, cormorants, scavenger birds, birds of prey, and more, as mentioned in our itinerary.

Note: Spotting most of these animals will depend on our patience and discretion. Get your camera ready! 

Access to these varies considerably depending on the specific location within the Peruvian jungle. During our tour, there will be internet access and Claro mobile network. Don’t worry: We know you need to stay in touch with others, so you can comfortably share all your experiences.

The food during our activities is varied and incorporates typical regional products. You will also try the region’s most famous dish: Juane.

Regarding vegan or vegetarian diets, rest assured: We offer options to suit dietary preferences.

Note: For vegan or vegetarian options, it is important to inform us at least 2 days before the trip to accommodate your preferences.

It is prohibited to take any wild animals or plants home as they are non-domestic species. Doing so poses a danger to the ecosystem and can have consequences for both small and large groups of flora and fauna that inhabit the area.

Our activities are ideal for all ages and recommended for individuals from 5 years old up to approximately 70 years old.
