Cusco city is located in the heart of the Andes Mountains. Therefore, we understand the importance of proper acclimatisation before embarking on this adventure. So, you will spend the first day exploring Cusco’s downtown by yourself while adapting to the altitude.

  • Highest altitude: 3,399m / 11,152 ft.
  • Lowest altitude: 3,399m / 11,152 ft.
  • Overnight: Cusco (Ayni Cusco Hotel*** or similar).
DAY 02: TOUR TO CHINCHERO, MARAS & MORAY

Highlight of the day: Explore the rich culture and impressive Inca engineering!

After breakfast, we will start the day by picking you up from your hotel, and going to the picturesque town of Chinchero (3,762 m / 12,342 ft), “The town of the Rainbow”. There, we will admire Chinchero’s temple and several Inca constructions. In addition, you will have the opportunity to participate in the making of alpaca wool and fine Andean textiles.

Continuing our tour, we will visit the gigantic circular terraces of Moray (3,500 m / 11,483 ft), evidence of advanced Inca agricultural engineering.

Our next stop will be the Maras salt mines (3,500 m / 11,483 ft). In this place, you will find more than 3,000 salt wells which have been used for human consumption since pre-Inca times.

Finally, in the afternoon, we will take our train from Ollantaytambo station (2,792 / 9160 ft) to Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Town (2,050 m / 6,725 ft), the gateway to one of the world’s greatest treasures: Machu Picchu.

  • Highest altitude: 3,399 m / 11,152 ft.
  • Lowest altitude: 3,762 m / 12,342 ft.
  • Meals: breakfast (hotel)
  • Overnight: Aguas Calientes (Golden Sunrise Hotel*** or similar).
DAY 03: VISIT MACHU PICCHU

Highlight of the day: You will discover and explore Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas!

On this day, we will wake up early for breakfast and then head to catch one of the first buses that will take us from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu citadel (2,430 m / 7,972 ft).

Once at the entrance, we will present our tickets and passports to start the tour with our guide, who will provide us with a detailed explanation of the history of this Incan marvel. During the visit, we will explore Machu Picchu’s most prominent spots, such as the Lower Platform, perfect for panoramic photos of the Incan citadel, the Temple of the Sun viewpoint, Eastern Qolqas, the Sacred Rock, and the Room of Mirrors.

At the end of your guided tour, you will have time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, if you have only purchased an entrance ticket for either of these places. These extra routes in Machu Picchu are optional, cost additional money and must be booked in advance due to maximum capacity.

After finishing your visit to the wonder of the world, you will return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Once you have finished your lunch, you will board the train to return to Ollantaytambo, and finally continue in our transport to your hotel in Cusco city.

DAY 04: INCA BRIDGE Q'ESWACHACA

Highlight of the day: Get up close at the incredible Inca bridge, made with vegetable fiber as part of the extensive network of Inca Trail!

We will start our Qeswachaka Tour Full Day by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. (previous coordination). Once we are all aboard our private transportation, we will head towards the remote province of Canas in a journey of approximately 3 hours, halfway we will make a stop in the province of Acomayo to observe the lagoons of Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha and Pampamarca (also known as Tungasuca), where we can witness the most beautiful scenery of the crystal-clear waters of the lagoons, surrounded by mountains and surrounding villages.

After enjoying and having taken the best pictures of the 4 lagoons circuit, we will return to our transportation and continue our trip to the town of Canas, which houses the famous and unique Qeswachaka Bridge, once we reach the bridge, we can swing on this apex of Inca engineering, while we connect with the history that the guide will give us to know. The bridge is approximately 30 meters long and is handmade with ropes braided from a grass known as “ichu”.

Note: Every year in the month of June, the 4 communities get together to carry out the maintenance of this bridge for 4 days. They start by tearing down the old bridge to build a new one using ancestral techniques inherited from generation to generation.

We will have the opportunity to cross the bridge twice, which will allow us to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Apurimac Canyon and take the best photos.

After the visit and exploration of this beautiful place, we will return to the transportation that will take us to a tourist restaurant to taste our nutritious and delicious lunch, to finally start the return trip, during which we will be able to appreciate an incredible Andean sunset until we arrive to Cusco city, to end this great experience.

Afterwards, we will descend along the same path until we return to the trek starting point, where we will board our transport. After a short trip, we will return to the place where we had breakfast, but this time we will eat lunch there.

Can I take my drone on the package's days?

No, the use of drones is not allowed, as, by supreme decree of the Peruvian government, in any archaeological centre or attraction that we will visit during our tour days in Cusco. However, as long as they are not in the aforementioned areas you can fly a drone over certain rural areas of the Andes. For more information please contact our sales team.

Which currency should I bring? Peruvian soles or US dollars?

It is advisable to bring US dollars as your main currency. Once you arrive in Cusco, exchange these dollars into Peruvian soles in Sol Av. We suggest you compare the exchange rates from several exchange houses to get the highest exchange rate available.

Avoid exchanging your money at Peru’s airports, as they tend to offer less favourable exchange rates. In addition, it is advisable to carry an adequate amount of Peruvian soles during your tour days, as most tourist businesses at the stops accept payment in soles, and some may accept dollars, but it is useful to have the local currency for convenience.

Where can I store my luggage while I visit Machu Picchu?

For convenience and comfort, it is recommended that you leave your heavy luggage at your accommodation in Cusco. Most hotels have luggage storage services free of charge (free of charge).

You will take the Peru Rail or Inca Rail trains (a necessity for getting to Machu Picchu quickly), these railway companies will only allow you to carry 5 kilos. Due to this reason, and to ensure your comfort, you should only carry a light backpack with the items you need to spend one night and visit the sites while you are away from your hotel in Cusco.

Is the Expedition train service better than the Vistadome train service?

Both trains make the same trip during the same period of time, along the same train tracks and on very similar schedules. However, the Vistadome is a little more comfortable than the Expedition train service. The windows and ceilings of the Vistadome train are wider than those of the Expedition train. There are also slightly larger spaces between seats in the Vistadome.

Finally, another difference is that the Vistadome service from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) to Ollantaytambo offers a dance show and a fashion show with baby alpaca garments.

What happens if a tour is cancelled due to weather conditions or strikes?

Note: Some of our travel packages do include local air flights on the Lima-Cusco, Cusco-Lima and Juliaca-Lima flights.

Is it important to acclimatise for this trip?

Most people adapt well within a day or two to the altitude of 3,350 metres in Cusco. However, it is worthwhile to remember that not everyone adapts to altitude changes. Some may feel altitude sickness and others may not. Taking an extra day in Cusco is an excellent way to ensure your body is fully acclimatised. This will allow you to fully enjoy each day without worrying about altitude sickness.

What activities do we have planned for the last day of the tour?

The last day of our package is a free day. You can make the most of it by exploring Cusco on your own or just relaxing, depending on your flight schedule.

Don’t worry, we are ready to transfer you from your hotel to the airport 2 hours before your scheduled flight. Once at the airport, our services will be over and we hope you had a carefree experience full of memorable moments!

Is hiking equipment provided?

Of course, we do! We offer handcrafted trekking poles to enhance your trekking experience. These poles are ideal for stability and comfort during treks to Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain.

Can trekking poles be purchased?

We understand that everyone has their own preferences and needs, so we offer two options for your convenience.

Firstly, we provide handmade trekking poles free of charge. These poles are appropriate for those wanting a lightweight, traditional option. As a result, they are ideal for stability and support in relation to Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain.

If you prefer high-quality trekking poles, we also have that option available. You can rent trekking poles for $15 for the entire trip. These poles are sturdier and more adjustable, which can be beneficial if you need more control and support on varied terrain.

Is it possible to enter Aguas Calientes hot springs?

Yes, after arriving in the charming town of Aguas Calientes, which is usually around 5:00 p.m., you will have the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the relaxing hot springs.

The hot springs cost $10. This small additional cost gives you access to the hot spring pools where you can soak in the hot waters while gazing at the surrounding mountains. It is the perfect way to relax before visiting Machu Picchu the next day.

Do I need to be in shape to do this package?

You don’t need to be an athlete to join us on this adventure, but being in reasonable physical shape is enough to enjoy the hikes and activities to the fullest. We strongly encourage all our travellers to inform us prior to their trip if they have any injuries or special conditions that may affect their participation in the tour. Our guests’ safety and comfort is paramount.

If you have a medical condition, it is highly recommended to consult your doctor before your trip. Our guides are prepared and carry first aid kits for any eventuality.
