Waqrapukara Tour Full Day - Group Service

The Waqrapukara tour is a 1-day excursion to visit this impressive Inca fortress located on top of a mountain overlooking the Apurimac Canyon, with constructions from the Inca period such as enclosures, temples and agricultural terraces. We will explore up close a little-known archaeological jewel, through a hike that involves a moderate ascent that will allow you to enjoy the Andean landscapes, with views of the canyon. The Waqrapukara Tour is an ideal opportunity to get away from the traditional hikes.

The Waqrapukara tour takes place in the district of Acos, in the province of Acomayo, south of the city of Cusco. At an altitude of 4,100 meters /13, 451 ft.

In the Cusco region, average daily temperatures go below 10 °C (50 °F) and nighttime temperatures can reach freezing. It is therefore recommended that travelers flying directly to Cusco (3,400 meters above sea level), or its high-altitude cities, take 2 or 3 days to acclimatize to the altitude and thus avoid altitude sickness, which could affect their health and jeopardize their scheduled activities.

The best season to make trips is during the dry season or with less rainfall in the Cusco region. It goes from mid-April to the end of October, being from June to August the most favorable months for tourism.

April – May: It is the beginning of the dry season and the rains are recurrent. The weather is quite pleasant with sunny days.

June – August: These are the driest months, it hardly rains and the weather is more stable, with sunny days and cool nights. These are the ideal months for trekking and visiting outdoor attractions.

September – October: These are still dry months, but there may be some concurrent afternoon showers. The weather becomes more humid.

November – March: Rainy season, rainfall is frequent and sometimes torrential, especially in January and February.

The Waqrapukara Tour takes place at an approximate altitude between 3,400 m / 11,151 ft. in the city of Cusco and 4,140 m / 13,583 ft. our highest point of the tour located at the viewpoint of Waqrapukara.

The Waqrapukara Tour is an experience that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, as long as they are prepared for the physical challenge since it is a hike of approximately 9 kilometers at altitudes over 4000 meters above sea level and with medium to high difficulty. Therefore, it is recommended that hikers have a minimum age of 12 years old and a maximum age of 60 years old, in both cases with good physical condition.

No, you cannot do the Waqrapukara tour if you have any physical limitations. Because this tour includes hikes of moderate difficulty in uneven terrain and at a high altitude, it requires an optimal level of fitness and good health to perform this tour.

If you have mobility limitations, respiratory problems, heart problems, or any other condition that prevents you from doing long hikes, this tour would not be recommended for you.

Ideally, the Waqrapukara tour should be booked at least 04 days in advance of your travel date.  This is to ensure that there is availability and that you can choose the date and time that suits you best.

However, if you are visiting Peru during the high season (May to September), it is advisable to book at least two weeks in advance.

Yes, it is possible to change the date of your tour with a minimum of 72 hours prior to the originally booked date. No additional costs will apply. However, you should contact your travel agent to avoid any setbacks with the new dates chosen.

Our Waqrapukara Tour starts picking you up from your hotel, which is recommended to be located in the Historic Center of Cusco or its surroundings.

At the end of the walk, you will board again the transport that will take us back to the city of Cusco, where our tour ends leaving you near the Plaza de Armas of Cusco.

Waman Adventures will pick you up from your hotel, as long as it is located in the Historic Center of Cusco. In case your place of rest does not meet these parameters, your guide will coordinate the time and place of pick-up.

Note: Some hotels and Airbnbs may be located on streets with no access or very narrow streets, making transportation and pick-up difficult. We recommend that you book accommodation with good access.

The initial deposit allows us to guarantee and lock in all services required for your Waqrapukara tour. This includes:

Entrance fees to the Waqrapukara fortress.

Staff such as guides, whose services must be booked in advance.

Touristic and logistic transportation exclusively for the group.

In this way, upon receiving your deposit (50% of the total cost of the tour) we can ensure the availability of the best services for the dates of your tour and avoid last-minute problems.

Remember that the 50% deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.

The balance payment must be made in CASH (recommended) and in DOLLARS (it can also be in soles, subject to the exchange rate of the day), directly at our offices in Cusco no later than 24 hours before the start date of your tour. Otherwise, the balance payment must be made the same day the tour starts, directly to your guide.

If for any reason your arrival in Cusco is delayed, we kindly ask you to contact us by email or phone to coordinate a new payment date.

It is very important to pay the balance before the start of the tour to ensure that all tourist services are properly coordinated. In case we do not receive the balance payment within the established deadline and without any communication from you due to possible delays, we will, unfortunately, be forced to cancel your reservation.

Therefore, most hotels in Cusco offer free luggage storage service for guests, in case your hotel does not provide this service, you can leave your luggage with total confidence and security in our facilities.
