We will start early in Cusco picking you up from your hotel at approximately 4:00 a.m. for a 3-hour drive to Mollepata town, the entrance to the Salkantay Valley. After, you will enjoy an excellent breakfast in Mollepata town, a famous area where avocados and Tara (native tree) are harvested; and then we will continue by car until we reach Soraypampa.

Upon arrival in Soraypampa, we will start hiking for at least 3 hours up to Salkantaypampa (4,100 m.a.s.l./13,451 ft), where we will lunch at the base of the Salkantay mountain. After a restful stop, we will continue slowly to camp at Soyroccocha (4,600 m.a.s.l./ 14,336 ft). Settled very close to the Salkantay mountain, which rises to 6,271 m.a.s.l./ 20,574 ft, and if the sky is clear, we will enjoy a night show of shooting stars.

To begin our day, we will observe a beautiful sunrise and a hearty early breakfast before embarking on our ascent to the highest point: the Salkantay Pass, which rises to 4,650 m.a.s.l./15,255 ft. The ascent will take us approximately 1 to 2 hours and will provide us with some breathtaking views, surrounded by the majestic Salkantay mountain, and with an impressive view of the tree-lined forest that begins meters below.

As we descend, we will experience a remarkable change in ecosystems. Initially, we will be immersed in the Andean landscape, and as we continue the vegetation will change from tree-lined forest to pre-mountain forest. In addition, it is very likely that we will have the opportunity to spot local birds such as tapaculos, tanagers, hummingbirds, wrens, antpittas, or mammals as we descend further.

Our lunch will be served in Wayraqmachay, an isolated dwelling. After enjoying it, we will continue descending, and you will notice a change in the weather as we enter the lush pre-montane forest. Here, vegetation becomes denser and wildlife is more evident and common. Keep in mind that we need at least 4 hour of trekking until you reach at our overnight camp, Collpapampa, located at an altitude of 2,920 m.a.s.l./9,580 ft. So, at this point, the climate becomes humid, also, you will appreciate a variety of flora and fauna.

After breakfast, at approximately 7:00 a.m., we will take the bus to the Inca Citadel entrance, Machu Picchu. Our guided tour to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu lasts approximately 2 hours; during this time you will take pictures, record, feel and take unforgettable moments.
