Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT CUSCO - INCA MUSEUM AND QORIKANCHA

Highlight of the day: Visit two of the most fascinating museums in Cusco.

Museo Inca Qorikancha

Upon your arrival in the beautiful Cusco city, our representative will be waiting for you at the airport or bus terminal to give you a warm welcome. Then, you will be transferred to your hotel by our private transportation. Cusco is located at 3,350 m/ 10,990 ft, and for this reason, during the first day, it is recommended to take some time to acclimatize.
After your accommodation and a short rest at your hotel, in the afternoon, we will visit the Inca Museum, where we will learn about Inca culture. This museum, founded in 1945, houses a vast collection of archaeological objects including ceramics, textiles, jewellery, tools, weapons and Inca sculptures. In addition, you will be able to see a series of mummies and deformed skulls that provide insight into ancient funerary and cultural practices.

At the end of the museum visit, you will be able to purchase souvenirs and local handicrafts in the gift shop. Afterwards, we will head to Qoricancha, a magical place located at an altitude of 3,390 meters/11,122 feet. This temple, according to chroniclers, was one of the most prestigious buildings in Inca times. Inside, the walls were covered with gold, as it was the main temple of the Sun God.
After this exciting cultural and archaeological experience, we will take you back to your hotel so you can rest and relax.

  • Minimum altitude: 3,350 m / 10,990 ft.
  • Highest altitude: 3,390 metres/ 11,122 ft.
  • Main attractions: The Inka Museum and Qoricancha.
  • Overnight: 3-star hotel in Cusco.
DAY 2: SAQSAYHUAMAN - TAMBOMACHAY AND THE TEMPLE OF THE MOON - TRANSFER TO AGUAS CALIENTES

Highlight of the day: Learn more about Inca architecture at the Saqsayhuaman fortress.

Sacsayhuaman- paseo a caballo Cusco Tambomachay

After enjoying a nutritious breakfast at the hotel, our private transportation will pick you up and take you to the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman (3,700 m / 12,139 ft). This impressive Inca construction was built in the 15th century during the rule of the ninth Inca, Pachacutec. Sacsayhuaman is a remarkable example of the Incas’ architectural skill, as the huge stones that make up the walls and terraces fit together perfectly without mortar.
From this point, we will continue our tour to the Temple of the Moon, a place full of spiritual connection and feminine energy, dedicated to the Moon Goddess. Our tour will culminate at Tambomachay (3,812 m / 12,507 ft). This archaeological site has special significance, as in the past, it was used for water worship ceremonies. Our guide will provide us with detailed information about the history and purpose of each cultural attraction visited, ensuring a complete and enriching experience.
After lunch, in the afternoon, we will travel by bus to the village of Ollantaytambo (2,700 m / 8,8858 ft), specifically to its train station. At that place, we will begin our exciting journey to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,050 m / 6,561 ft), the gateway to Machu Picchu.

  • Minimum altitude: 2,050 m / 6,561 ft.
  • Highest altitude: 3,812 m / 12,507 ft.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch
  • Main attractions: Saqsayhuaman, Temple of the Moon and Tambomachay.
  • Overnight: Aguas Calientes (3-star hotel).
DAY 3: MACHU PICCHU

Highlight of the day: Tour the archaeological jewel of Cusco, the imposing Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu Machu Picchu

After a refreshing rest, on the third day, we will wake up early for breakfast and then head to catch one of the first buses that will take us from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu citadel entrance (2,430 m / 7,972 ft).
After presenting our ticket and passport at the entrance, our guide will begin his explanation of the history of this Inca wonder while we visit the most important sectors of Machu Picchu, such as the classic viewpoint, the Guardian’s House, the viewpoint of the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Rock and the Water Mirrors Set.
At the end of your guided tour, you will have time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, if you have purchased an entrance ticket for either of these places only. These extra routes in Machu Picchu are optional, have an additional cost and must be booked in advance due to maximum capacity.
To end this exciting day and celebrate the experience of visiting Machu Picchu, we have scheduled a special dinner to share your experience.

  • Minimum altitude: 2,050 m / 6,561 ft.
  • Highest altitude: 3,350 m / 10,990 ft.
  • Meals: Breakfast and dinner
  • Main attraction: Machu Picchu
  • Overnight: Aguas Calientes (3-star hotel)
DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES - OLLANTAYTAMBO - MORAY - SALT MINES

Highlight of the day: Visit the most emblematic places around the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Moray Salineras de Maras

In the morning, after breakfast, you will board the train to return to Ollantaytambo, an Inca town that breathes ancestral traditions and is located at an altitude of 2,700 m / 8,858 ft above sea level. Once in this village, we will head to Moray (3,500 m / 11,483 ft).
Moray is an intriguing ancient site designed to conduct agricultural research in various altitudinal zones. Its multiple concentric “rings” of terraces (cultivation terraces) create a subtle microclimate gradient. This means that the heat in the lower central ring gradually dissipates as we ascend the outer rings. This generates a temperature variation that adapts to cultivation needs.
After exploring these enigmatic terraces, we return to our private transport and head to the Salt Mines of Maras (3,000 m / 9,843 ft). These salt ponds have been important sources since pre-Inca times. Here, we will find more than 3,000 salt ponds distributed along the mountainside, creating a breathtaking landscape and fascinating economic activity that has endured over the centuries.
In the afternoon, we will finally return to the hotel on our private transport to prepare and rest for the next day’s exciting adventures.

  • Minimum altitude: 2,050 m / 6,561 ft.
  • Highest altitude: 3,385 m / 11,106 ft.
  • Meals: Breakfast (hotel).
  • Main attractions: Moray and Maras.
  • Overnight: Cusco (3-star hotel).
DAY 5: CHINCHERO (TEXTILE INTERPRETATION CENTER)

Highlight of the day: Learn the secrets of Inca-style textiles and wool production and dyeing.

Chinchero Centro textil - Chinchero

We start the day approximately at 7:30 a.m., when our private transport picks you up from your hotel. We will head towards the colourful village of Chinchero, where we will find Inca wall constructions. In this village, at 3,762 m / 12,342 ft, we will visit the Archaeological Site of the Royal Palace of Tupac Inca Yupanqui and its small colonial church, a building with a lot of history because it has been built over an ancient Inca village.
Afterwards, we will head to a local textile centre, where we will have a demonstration of how traditional weaving is done. You’ll see talented weavers in action, from spinning wool to dyeing techniques using natural pigments obtained from local plants and minerals.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in short lessons on Andean textile weaving, a knowledge inherited across family lines that has survived to this day.
Finally, we will return to Cusco, where your accommodation awaits you.

  • Minimum altitude: 3,350 m / 10,990 ft.
  • Highest altitude: 3,762 m / 12,342 ft.
  • Meals: Breakfast (hotel).
  • Main attractions: Textile centre, archaeological site of the Royal Palace of Tupac Inca Yupanqui and its small colonial church.

Depending on your physical condition, I invite you to contact our sales team for a personalised assessment. You can contact us through this link.

Our sales team will be happy to help you determine if the tour is right for you and answer any questions you may have.

How far in advance should I book this tour?

To secure your place on this tour, we recommend booking at least one month in advance. This is especially important because tickets to Machu Picchu are limited daily and sell out quickly. Booking well in advance ensures you can enjoy this experience without worry.

How advisable is it to get insurance for this tour?

It is suggested that you consider insurance for your peace of mind and safety during the experience. Your well-being is our priority, and insurance can provide an additional layer of protection in case of any eventuality.

What currency should I bring for the 06 days Machu Picchu and Cusco, The Puma City, Tour?

You should bring US dollars as your main currency for your 06 days trip to Machu Picchu and Cusco “The Puma City”. Once you arrive in Cusco, exchange these dollars for Peruvian soles. You will find numerous exchange houses in places like Avenida El Sol. We suggest you compare the exchange rates from several of them to get the best exchange rate available.

Avoid exchanging your money at Peru’s airports, as they tend to offer less favourable exchange rates. In addition, it is advisable to carry an adequate amount of Peruvian soles during your tour days, as most tourist businesses at the stops accept payment in soles, and some may accept dollars, but it is useful to have the local currency for convenience.

Can I use my drone on my tour days?

No, drones are not permitted. The Supreme Decree of the Peruvian government says that their use is not allowed in any archaeological centre or site that we will visit during our tour days in Cusco. However, as long as they are not in the aforementioned areas you can fly a drone over certain rural areas of the Andes. For more information please contact our sales team.

Can I book additional nights of hotel accommodation before or after my booked tour?

Yes, at Waman Adventures we offer the possibility to book additional nights in the hotels we work with. These reservations can be made before or after your tour, and we will arrange them according to your specific needs.

For more information or to make a reservation for extra nights, we recommend contacting our sales colleagues. They will coordinate all the details and provide you with available options.

PLEASE NOTE: All hotel reservations must be made at least 30 days before your booking date.

What happens if I am a solo traveller, will I be charged a single supplement?

Yes, our prices are based on double occupancy, 2 people sharing a room. If you are a single traveller, you will have to pay an extra charge. This you will have to confirm with our sales staff so that we can proceed with the booking. This is because you will have a room to yourself (this does not vary much in space and price from a double room).

What happens if my tour is cancelled due to weather or strikes?

We understand your concerns! When it comes to unpredictable weather conditions or strikes that may affect your tour, we want to provide you with clarity. Unfortunately, because we organise and book your entrance tickets and tickets in advance to guarantee your trip, tours affected by these events beyond our control are non-refundable. However, we are here to help you find the best possible solutions and alternatives to make your trip as enjoyable and safe as possible.

What is the refund policy?

At the time we receive written notification that you wish to cancel your trip, you will be charged the following fees:

30 to 60 days 40 % of the cost of the package
7 to 29 days before the departure date 60 % of the cost of the package
Less tan 7 days before the departure date or No Show. 100 % of the cost of the package
What type of ground transportation is used on the tour?

Waman Adventures prides itself on offering first-class ground transportation. We prioritise comfort and safety, which is why we use quality vehicles, such as the Mercedes Benz 20 and Hyundai H350 models, which are ideal for both our private and group services. These transport units are regularly subjected to strict weekly technical inspections to guarantee their optimal function. They also comply with tourist regulations that require vehicles to be no more than 5 years old. During your visit to Machu Picchu, we will use a combination of transport methods, including trains and buses.

Can I choose my seat for my train journey to Aguas Calientes, Machupicchu?

The train companies Peru Rail and Inca Rail generally allocate seats in the train carriages at random, depending on availability for the selected travel date. Travel agents, such as ours, always strive to secure tickets for the desired date, prioritising availability over specific seat choices.

However, if you prefer to have full control over seat selection, you also have the option of purchasing train tickets on your own. However, as a travel agency, we facilitate this process to make it as convenient as possible for you.

Where can I store my luggage during my Aguas Calientes trip?

During the two nights you will spend in Aguas Calientes, you will have the option of leaving your luggage in the storage room of your assigned hotel in Cusco (free service). It is convenient since, after your stay in Aguas Calientes, you will return to the same hotel in Cusco where your belongings were left.

Do travel packages include international flights?

Waman Adventures works with passengers arriving from all over the world, and our main focus is providing high-quality services within Peruvian territory. Therefore, our travel packages do not include international flights.

However, we have trained staff that will help you quote and arrange your flights.

How many travellers will share this experience with me?

Waman Adventures specializes in providing services in small groups to ensure a highly personalized experience. Our minimum number of travellers for packages and tours is two people, and if you join a group, the group will not exceed 17 people. If the group exceeds 9 people, you will have a main guide and an assistant guide to ensure quality service.

Is accommodation included in this travel package? Can I choose the accommodation I like?

Our travel packages include accommodation according to duration and double occupancy. We can offer double rooms with 2 single beds or a double bed. A triple room with 3 single beds is available if you are three travellers. It is necessary to contact our sales agents to provide these details regarding the type of accommodation.

On the other hand, if you are a single person, you will have to pay an individual supplement for your accommodation in the hotel. This is due to the fact that Peru’s single room and double room prices are almost the same. This means that, if you are a solo traveller, you will have to pay for a room for one person.

NOTE: The accommodation we offer in Lima is the Miramar Hotel. In Cusco, it is the Ayni Cusco Hotel, Monasterio San Pedro or similar. In Machu Picchu Town, also called Aguas Calientes, it is the Golden Sunrise Hotel or similar. In Puno, it is the Royal Inn Hotel, Kalayasa or similar. All hotels are 3-star category.

Is it necessary to acclimatise for this trip?

Yes, most people adapt well within a day or two to 3,350 m / 10,991 ft. Some may feel altitude sickness and some may not. Taking an extra day in Cusco is an excellent way to ensure your body is fully acclimatised. This will allow you to enjoy each day without worrying about altitude sickness.

What do we have scheduled for the last day?

On the last day of the itinerary, an exciting walking tour of Cusco is scheduled. During this tour, you will explore the charming neighbourhoods and points of interest that make this city so special. After this tour, you will be transferred to the airport.

What about payment? Do I need to deposit?

To reserve your place on this exciting adventure, we require a deposit ranging from 20% to 30% of the total cost of the tour. You can easily make your deposit through the following links. This deposit is required to secure your place on the tour and ensure everything for your arrival.

Are vegetarian, vegan and/or other special dietary needs available?

Of course they are – at no extra cost! When making your reservation, please communicate your dietary preferences in advance to our sales team. This will enable us to take them into account and provide you with suitable options during your meals.

I have a food allergy. Can I still participate?

Of course you can! You are more than welcome to participate in our tours, even if you have food allergies. However, remember to communicate your allergies at booking. As well as the severity of your reaction and any medication you take in case of emergency. If your allergy is severe, we ask that you must be accompanied by a friend or family member aware of and fully responsible for your situation. This person must be ready with any medication.

PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT CLIENTS WITH LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES.

Which is the best train service to Machu Picchu: Expedition or Vistadome?

If you are looking for an excellent train experience in Machu Picchu, we recommend the Vistadome service. Although both trains follow the same route and timetable, the Vistadome offers larger windows on the walls and roof. This allows you to enjoy even more of the stunning scenery on your journey. In addition, the Vistadome has slightly more spacious seating and offers a dance show and a fashion show with baby alpaca garments on the stretch from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. This adds entertainment and culture to your travel experience. So, if you want to make the most of your train journey to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu), the Vistadome is the ideal choice.
