Our trek to Huchuy Qosqo begins early, picking you up from your hotel and heading towards the archaeological site of Tambomachay (3,700 meters/12,139 ft.). Here, we will start our uphill hike until we reach the first high point, the Tambomachay Pass (4,100 meters/13,451 ft.), from where we can contemplate the surrounding valleys and the Andean wildlife that surrounds us, including birds and camelids.

After refueling with lunch, we will continue our adventure towards the community of Quenko (3,600 meters/11,811 ft.). During the journey, we will pass by the Qoriccocha Lake, and after 2 hours of hiking, we will arrive at this cozy community. Here, the locals will warmly welcome us, giving us the unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in the authenticity of their Andean lifestyle.

We begin the day waking up in Quenko, after breakfast, we will head to the mountain pass of Siwa (4,000 meters/12,123 ft.), and then descend towards Huchuy Qosqo (3,600 meters/11,811 ft.).

During the journey, we will spot in the distance an Inca gateway built with adobe, indicating that we are entering Huchuy Qosqo, also known as “Little Cusco.” Alongside our guide, we will explore the Inca buildings, temples, warehouses, and agricultural terraces, enjoying Huchuy Qosqo as an authentic stage to contemplate the splendor of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, accompanied by the majesty of the snow-capped Pitusiray. Additionally, marveling at some of the best-preserved Inca constructions in all of Peru. Later, we will have spare time to rest and explore on our own.

Afterward, we will bid farewell to Huchuy Qosqo to embark on an approximately 1 and a half hour hike descending towards the town of Lamay (2,941 meters/9,649 ft.), where our transportation will be waiting to take us to the town of Ollantaytambo (2,750 meters/8,950 ft.), where we will spend the night.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to the Train Station in Ollantaytambo to board the train that will take us to KM 104, also known as Chachabamba; the average time for this journey is approximately one hour.

Once we arrive at km 104, we will begin the wonderful hike along the Inca Trail. You should remember that upon reaching the state checkpoint, you will be asked to present your identification documents (passport, foreigner card, or identity document). After 15 minutes from the starting point of the hike, we will be able to visit the Archaeological Center of Chachabamba (2,200 m/7,218 ft.), located within a beautiful, evergreen valley.

After exploring Chachabamba, we will ascend through the Inca stairs amidst lush vegetation. Along this route, we will witness a stunning waterfall and learn about the orchids found along the Inca Trail. After approximately 4 hours of hiking, we will reach a spectacular and historically significant archaeological site exclusive to the Inca Trail, the famous Wiñaywayna (2,650 m/8,694 ft). We will explore the site and then have lunch to regain our strength.

Following a refreshing break at Wiñaywayna (2,680 m/8,792 ft.), we will continue the hike for an additional 2 hours, exploring the surroundings and the “tambos,” which in Inca times were known as resting places. The next point of our visit will be “Inti Punku” or the Sun Gate (2,720 m/8,924 ft.). This place was formerly a checkpoint for access to Machu Picchu, offering an exceptional and breathtaking panoramic view of the Wonder of the World.

We will then descend for approximately 30 more minutes to Machu Picchu (2,490 m/8,169 ft.), where we will have a privileged view of the “Llaqta.” Finally, we will take the descent bus, which will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,160 m/7,087 ft.). Upon arrival in Machu Picchu pueblo, a pleasant dinner awaits you at a tourist restaurant and a comfortable room in a 3-star hotel.

Note: If you still have energy left, you can visit the hot springs, which are only a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and the entrance fee is 10 soles (approx. 3 USD). On the other hand, you can also stroll through the streets of the town and enjoy the evening.

This day will start early with breakfast before heading to the first buses that will take us from Aguas Calientes to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (2,430 m / 7,972 ft.).

Upon arrival at the entrance, we will present our tickets and passports to begin the tour with our guide, who will provide us with a detailed explanation of the history of this Inca wonder. During the visit, we will explore Machu Picchu’s most iconic places, such as the classic viewpoint, the Guardian’s House, the Temple of the Sun viewpoint, the Sacred Rock, and the Water Mirror Set.

At the end of the tour, you will have free time to ascend Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, if we have purchased the corresponding tickets. These additional excursions are optional, have an extra cost, and require advance booking due to limited availability.
