Today will begin early with breakfast before heading for one of the first buses that take us from Aguas Calientes to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (2,430 m / 7,972 ft).

At the end of the tour, you will have free time to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, if you have purchased the corresponding tickets. These additional excursions are optional, have an extra cost, and must be booked in advance due to limited availability.

After visiting this Wonder of the World, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch. We will then board the return train to Ollantaytambo and end the day with our private transportation back to your accommodation in Cusco.

From the “Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Humantay Lagoon Tour,” you can expect a unique experience that allows you to explore breathtaking landscapes and discover the history and culture of the Cusco region. Throughout this travel package, you will visit various destinations, including the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Humantay Lagoon.

What is the best season to do the “6-Day Andean Adventure – With Flights from Mexico”?

The best season to do the “Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Humantay Lagoon Tour” is generally during the dry season, which runs from April to October. June to August are typically the most popular months due to more stable weather conditions. The days are sunny, and there is less chance of rain.

What is the maximum altitude reached on the “6-Day Andean Adventure – With Flights from Mexico”?

The highest altitude reached on the “Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Humantay Lagoon Tour” is 5,020 m (16,470 ft) at Rainbow Mountain.

Is accommodation included in this travel package? Can I choose whichever lodging I want?

Our travel packages include accommodations according to the length of the trip, based on double occupancy. We can offer double rooms with two single beds or one double bed. For three travelers, we can provide a triple room with three single beds or a layout you prefer. It is necessary to contact our sales agents to provide details regarding your preferred type of room.

On the other hand, if you are traveling alone, you must pay a single supplement for your hotel accommodation. This is because the price for a single and a double room in Peru is nearly the same, meaning that, as a solo traveler, you must cover the cost of a room for just one person.

NOTE: The lodging we provide in Lima is Miramar Hotel. In Cusco, Ayni Cusco Hotel, Monasterio San Pedro, or similar. In Machu Picchu Pueblo (also called Aguas Calientes), it’s Golden Sunrise Hotel or similar. In Puno, we use the Royal Inn, Kalayasa, or similar. All hotels are 3-star category.

Are vegetarian or special dietary options available for meals?

Yes, it is recommended that you inform our sales team in advance about your dietary preferences so that we can accommodate and provide appropriate options during your meals.

I have a food allergy. Can I still participate?

Yes, but please remember to provide detailed information about your allergy when making your reservation, including the severity of your reaction and any medication you take in case of an emergency. If your allergy is severe, we ask that you travel with someone who is fully aware and responsible for your condition and prepared with any necessary medication.

WE CANNOT ACCEPT CLIENTS WITH LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES.

What is the age range for the “6-Day Andean Adventure – With Flights from Mexico”?

The recommended minimum age for these experiences is 5, and it is not advisable for those ages 0 to 4. In addition, all minors must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult (18+). The maximum recommended age for this experience is up to 60 years old.

Is there a discount for underage travelers?

Yes, there is a special discount of US$85.00 for children 5 to 9 years old.

Extras:

  • Children aged 10 to 16 enjoy a special discount of US$25.00
If I have a physical limitation, can I take this tour?

Depending on your physical condition, please contact our sales team for a personalized evaluation. They will be happy to help determine whether the tour is suitable for you and answer all your questions.

How far in advance should I book the “6-Day Andean Adventure – With Flights from Mexico” tour?

To guarantee your spot on the “Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Humantay Lagoon Tour,” we recommend booking at least one month in advance, as tickets for Machu Picchu have a limited daily capacity.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

When we receive written notification that you wish to cancel your trip, the following fees will apply:

30 to 60 days 40% of the trip cost
7 to 29 days before the departure date 60% of the trip cost
Less than 7 days before departure or “No-Show” (if the passenger does not show up) 100% of the trip cost
What should I do if I feel unwell during my hike to Humantay Lagoon or Rainbow Mountain?

If you experience altitude sickness symptoms during your Humantay Lagoon or Rainbow Mountain hike, please inform your guide immediately about your discomfort. Resting, staying hydrated, and chewing small amounts of coca leaves are initial measures. In severe cases, descending to a lower altitude may be necessary, meaning you would not continue the tour. We also recommend acclimatizing for at least one day in Cusco, and avoiding heavy meals, alcohol, and tobacco prior to the hikes.

How can I get my ticket to enter Huayna Picchu?

You must book Huayna Picchu tickets several months in advance, keeping in mind that access is restricted to only 400 people per day. The purchase is done online at the official website: https://www.machupicchu.gob.pe. Once on that page, you must book the route: CIRCUITO 4 + MONTAÑA WAYNAPICCHU, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. This ensures we can follow the itinerary planned for your third day of travel.

Payment is made with Visa or MasterCard, including a 5% transaction fee. Finally, print out your tickets and present them on your visit to Waynapicchu Mountain.

Can I bring my drone during my tour days?

No. The use of drones is not permitted, as per Supreme Decree by the Peruvian government, in any of the archaeological sites or attractions we will visit during our days in Cusco. However, as long as you are outside these mentioned areas, it may be possible to fly a drone in certain rural areas of the Andes. For more information, please contact our sales team.

Which currency should I bring: Peruvian soles or US dollars?

For your tour, it is recommended to bring US dollars as your primary currency. Once you arrive in Cusco, exchange these dollars for Peruvian soles. You will find numerous exchange offices in areas like Avenida El Sol. We suggest comparing exchange rates in several locations to get the best rate.

Avoid exchanging money at airports in Peru, as their exchange rates are usually less favorable. Additionally, carry an adequate amount of Peruvian soles during your tour, since most tourist businesses along the stops accept payment in soles, while some may accept dollars. However, having local currency is more convenient.

Where can I store my luggage during the visit to Machu Picchu?

For greater comfort, it is recommended to leave heavy luggage at your hotel in Cusco. Most hotels provide luggage storage at no extra cost.

During your train journey (the mandatory segment to get to Machu Picchu quickly), you will travel with Peru Rail or Inca Rail, both of which only allow 5 kilos of luggage. For this reason and your convenience, you should bring only a small, lightweight backpack with the essentials for one overnight stay and to use during your visits, while away from your hotel in Cusco (to which you will return).

How advisable is it to purchase insurance for the “6-Day Andean Adventure – With Flights from Mexico”?

We suggest considering insurance for your peace of mind and safety during the experience. Your well-being is our top priority, and insurance can provide an additional layer of protection in the event of any unforeseen issues.

Will I have internet access during my tour days?

Yes, the hotels we work with have a stable, high-speed internet connection. However, during hikes to Humantay Lagoon or Rainbow Mountain, the connection may be slow or unstable. If you need constant connectivity, you can purchase a local SIM card. The main recommended networks are CLARO and ENTEL, which offer wide coverage and data packages starting from as little as 5 soles, depending on the service you choose.

Can I book extra hotel nights before or after my tour?

Yes, at Waman Adventures we offer the possibility of reserving extra nights in the hotels we work with. These reservations can be made before or after your tour, and we will arrange them according to your specific needs.

For more information or to reserve additional nights, we recommend contacting our sales team. They will coordinate all the details and provide you with the available options.

NOTE: All hotel reservations must be made at least 30 days before your travel date.

Is there a single supplement if I am traveling alone?

Yes. Our promotional prices are designed for double occupancy, where two people share a room. If you prefer to travel solo and want a single room, you must pay an extra fee. This single supplement is necessary to cover the costs associated with a private room and transportation services. We recommend consulting our sales team for specific details and to proceed with your booking.

Which train service to Machu Picchu is better: Expedition or Vistadome?

If you’re looking for the best train experience to Machu Picchu, we recommend the Vistadome. Although both trains follow the same route and schedule, Vistadome offers larger windows along the walls and ceiling, allowing you to enjoy the gorgeous scenery even more. Additionally, the Vistadome has slightly more spacious seating and offers a dance show and a fashion show featuring baby alpaca garments on the return trip from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. This adds extra entertainment and culture to your travel experience.

What if a tour is canceled due to weather conditions or strikes?

We understand your concerns! When dealing with unpredictable weather or strikes that may affect your tour, we want to provide clarity. Unfortunately, because we pre-book your entrance tickets and transportation to guarantee your trip, tours impacted by these external events are non-refundable. However, we’re here to help find the best solutions and alternatives possible so your journey remains as pleasant and safe as possible.

Do travel packages include international flights?

At Waman Adventures, we focus on providing you with outstanding service within Peruvian territory. Therefore, our travel packages do not include international airline tickets. However, we understand that travel planning can be complicated! We are here to assist you in finding the best options for your international flights. We have trained staff (our sales team) who will be happy to help you get quotes and organize your flights in the best way possible.

Is acclimatization important for this trip?

Most people adapt well in a day or two to Cusco’s altitude of 3,350 meters, but it’s important to remember that not everyone reacts the same way to altitude. Some may experience altitude sickness, others may not. Taking an extra day in Cusco is an excellent way to ensure your body is fully acclimatized, allowing you to enjoy every day without worrying about altitude sickness.

What activity do we have planned for the last day of the tour?

The last day of our package is a free day. You can take full advantage by exploring the city of Cusco on your own or simply relaxing, depending on your flight schedule. Don’t worry, we’re ready to provide transportation from your hotel to the airport to ensure you arrive on time. Once you’re at the airport, our services will have ended. We hope you had a stress-free experience filled with wonderful moments!

Is trekking equipment provided?

Absolutely! We offer handcrafted trekking poles as an option to enhance your hiking experience. These poles are ideal for added stability and comfort during walks to the Humantay Lagoon and Rainbow Mountain.

Can I get trekking poles?

We understand that each traveler has unique needs and preferences, so we offer two options for your convenience.

First, we provide handcrafted trekking poles free of charge. These lightweight, traditional poles are perfect for providing stability and support during your hikes to Humantay Lagoon and Rainbow Mountain.

If you prefer using standard trekking poles, we also have those available. You can rent them for US$15 for the entire trip. These poles are more robust and adjustable, which can be beneficial if you want more control and support on varied terrain.

Can I enter the hot springs in Aguas Calientes?

Yes, after arriving at the charming town of Aguas Calientes—usually around 5:00 p.m.—you will have the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the relaxing hot springs.

The fee to enter the hot springs is US$10. This small additional expense grants you access to the thermal pools where you can soak and enjoy the warm waters while taking in the surrounding mountains—a perfect way to unwind before visiting Machu Picchu the following day.

Do I need to be in good shape to do this tour?

You don’t have to be an athlete to join our tours, but being in reasonably good shape will allow you to fully enjoy the hikes and activities. We strongly advise all travelers to inform us prior to their trip if they have any injuries or special conditions that could affect their participation. Our guests’ safety and comfort are paramount.

If you have any specific medical conditions, it’s important to consult your doctor before starting the tour. Our guides are trained and carry first-aid kits for any eventuality. If you take personal medication, be sure to have it with you on the tours, and maintain clear communication with your guide if you need any assistance related to your health.
