We’ll start day around 8:00 a.m. when we pick you up at your hotel in Cusco, at 11,152 feet (3,399 meters) altitude. We’ll travel in our private transportation toward Maras community while enjoying views of puna, traditional agricultural lands, and snow capped mountains rising on horizon.
Upon arriving at Aywayro viewpoint, located at 12,369 feet (3,770 meters) altitude, we’ll check our bikes and protective equipment. We’ll have safety talk, brief technical assessment, and warmup while contemplating open panoramas of Sacred Valley.
First route will be Maras 1, panoramic descent of 6.25 miles (10.06 kilometers) with negative elevation of 3,028 feet (923 meters) taking approximately hour and half. On this trail we’ll pedal through technical singletrack with natural flow taking us from Maras high plateau toward narrower and more challenging paths. We’ll find fast flow sections with natural berms and well defined curves, loose rock sections with small drops, and trails crossing pre Inca water channels and agricultural roads still active today. Among most memorable points will be views over ancient Maras salt mines, framed by Urubamba mountain range.
After completing this first descent we’ll pause to hydrate and have lunch. Then we’ll check technical details like brakes and suspension before continuing.
Later we’ll travel approximately forty minute journey to next starting point. During way we’ll enjoy impressive views of Inca terraces, open agricultural lands, and Sacred Valley’s intense green.
Second route will be Maras 2, technical challenge of 6.47 miles (10.42 kilometers) with negative elevation of 2,812 feet (857 meters) and approximate duration of hour and half. This trail will be more demanding than first, with rocky singletrack sections and variable flow. We’ll descend through tight curves testing our control, narrow sections where balance will be fundamental, loose rock areas, water crossings, and natural stone carved steps. All this we’ll experience accompanied by open views of Sacred Valley of Incas, Inca terraces, and ancestral paths showing region’s living heritage.
Upon reaching end of second route we’ll celebrate with toast and cold drink, either beer or isotonic option to replenish energy. Finally, we’ll begin return in our private transportation with estimated arrival at your hotel in Cusco or your accommodation in Sacred Valley between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. It will be perfect close to full day of mountain biking combining technique, tradition, and unforgettable landscapes.
